Publisher's summary

Every year, thousands of children are killed...by their own parents.

Now, Shane Wills is about to discover why, as he comes under attack from an evil that has existed since the beginning of time. An evil that invades loving parents and turns them into something else. An evil that feeds on the blood and despair of dying children. An evil that most people will never know, because they cannot perceive...the Apparition.

one of the best horror books I have read.

I love this book! He kept me coming back for more. Shane showed a perfect example dedication and love for his children.

A New Experience

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shane goes through torment I can scarcely imagine but is still able to stay strong for his children.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the very last scene, not because it gave me any good feelings, but because it was able to catch me completely off guard.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It didn't make me cry, but it certainly didn't help me sleep at night. I'm just glad I moved out of my parents house and that I'm not yet a parent myself. I am not going to read this book after I have children.

Any additional comments?

I met Michaelbrent Collings at a convention in Idaho where he was hosting a discussion on zombies. After the discussion I got to talk with him about his books, and he turned me on to Apparition. Now, I had never listened/read any of his books before I had met him, so I was thoroughly impressed when I found out he was able to write a book that can spook me for the first time. I can't wait for another book of this caliber.

disappointing

What disappointed you about Apparition?

from the blurbs I read, I expected it to be more than just statistics of child murders. I expected to be appalled and revolted, and yet unable to put it down. Other than the first scene where the mother was taken over by her insane desire to kill her kids, it just dragged.

What was most disappointing about Michaelbrent Collings’s story?

The diary was the only look into the surviving parents mind. It just seemed to drag.

Did John Bell do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes

What character would you cut from Apparition?

none

Disturbing due to content...but

I had a hard time getting into the book in the beginning only due to the content . After I read the book, then I listen to the audio...wow! it's a psychological thriller that disturbed my peace for days after. When you think about a book days after reading it, to me that's a good read! I will try another book by this author!

Ever wonder what kills children?

Would you listen to Apparition again? Why?

I would listen to it again. It is very well written. Quite intense though, a lot of the time I had to break after every 1-2 chapters just to clear my head.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really enjoyed when Mr. Collings was writing in the kids perspective. But, he really nailed them all. I would've loved it had the teddy bear real-estate agent had more of a role. But, understand why he didn't.

Have you listened to any of John Bell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Didn't think I had. But, going back I saw that he did read Michaelbrent's The Loon. I liked that one. It's been too long to remember how they compare though. However, I am interested in listening to some of his other work now.

If you could rename Apparition, what would you call it?

Once mine always mine.

Any additional comments?

When listening make sure to stick around to the author's note. It explains where the author was coming from and helps you realize that he's not totally off his rocker.

I'm sure this book is great, but...

I can't take the narration! This guys sounds like something off of 20/20, which is fine on a Sunday evening. It's just not what I want in my storytelling! It is literally grating on my last nerve! If I knew how to return it, I would, and I'd just buy the book to read old school!!

Awesome!!

This was a great book! It kept me on the edge of my seat for over half of it. I even found myself listening to it on my way to and from work.
