Publisher's summary

The fate of five kingdoms teeters on the knife’s edge, and Eira’s destiny is in the icy grasp of the Pirate Queen. After a narrow escape from the brutal end of the Tournament of Five Kingdoms, Eira and her friends find themselves prisoners of the legendary Pirate Queen Adela. To most, death follows shortly after the pirate queen’s icy stare. But for Eira, those all to familiar eyes hold long-sought truths.

As she and her friends dive deeper into the pirates’ world, their magic is pushed to the brink. Morals are tested, old passions reignite, and fresh desires spark. But love can be the deadliest vulnerability.

Amid high-seas action, close-call escapes, and the twisted political machinations occurring in the shadows, a haunting question looms larger and larger: How much are they prepared to sacrifice for what they believe in?

An Heir of Frost is the fourth book in A Trial of Sorcerers, a young-adult epic fantasy series intended for listeners who love stories involving sorcerer competitions, slow-burn romance, adventures to distant lands, good triumphing over evil, and elemental magic.

Don’t miss a single book in the Trial of Sorcerers series. Listeners should first listen to A Trial of Sorcerers, A Hunt of Shadows, and A Tournament of Crowns before starting An Heir of Frost.

Somewhere Between Yes and Meh

I listened to all four books in probably the last few weeks and was both disappointed and okay with the fact that there isn't another for a while. Here's why:

The good: The world-building is very satisfying and interesting, and I love some of the side characters as well. I'm happy to see Eira growing with each book, and it felt real.

The bad: I spent most of these books kind of feeling a tad lied to as I took her questionnaire about what kind of book I wanted and chose everything except, enemies to lovers and a love triangle and I got BOTH. More over the triangle feels like it's forced, because one of the guys hardly has any real chance given the history and pre-existing feelings for the other man. Plus well, she spends most of her time with him so I don't really see the point of leading the other man on other than she's ego-tripping. That's honestly one of the biggest groan factors for me in this series, the romance points in it are very predictable (book two: oh no, he slept with you and kept a very big secret that broke your heart.) and almost forced in some cases. The romance story I did like was with two side characters and that just ended very abruptly so yeah...

I don't know if I'll be coming back for the next one.

Good world building but this one disappointed me

Loved this series and waited months for the release of this book. So sad, I felt like jt was underwhelming. I’m left feeling like thats all, we waited for this?! Good world building but I just felt meh and I’m over the cliffhangers and loose ends.
