Publisher's summary

New York Times best seller Charlaine Harris returns to her Aurora Teagarden mystery series with a fabulous new book featuring the small-town Southern librarian.

Aurora Teagarden is basking in the news of her pregnancy when disaster strikes her small Georgia town: four kids vanish from the school soccer field in an afternoon. Aurora's 15-year-old brother, Phillip, is one of them. Also gone are two of his friends and an 11-year-old girl who was just hoping to get a ride home from soccer practice. And then there's an even worse discovery - at the kids' last known destination, a dead body.

While the local police and sheriff's department comb the county for the missing kids and interview everyone even remotely involved, Aurora and her new husband, true-crime writer Robin Crusoe, begin their own investigation. Could the death and kidnappings have anything to do with a group of bullies at the middle school? Is Phillip's disappearance related to Aurora's father's gambling debts? Or is Phillip himself, new to town and an unknown quantity, responsible for taking the other children?

But regardless of the reason, as the days go by, the most important questions remain. Are the kids still alive? Who could be concealing them? Where could they be? With Christmas approaching, Aurora is determined to find her brother - if he's still alive.

Welcome Back Aurora!! Welcome Back Charlaine!

Discovering that Charlaine Harris decided to go back to her roots by reviving one of her popular mystery series was quite a pleasant surprise. I absolutely love Harris' stories and writing. However, I wasn't sure if I would ever view her as a credible author again after the way she strung along her readers as she ended the Sookie Stackhouse series.

Now enters Aurora Teagarden on a new adventure. Aurora now married to Robin, with child and legal guardian to her teenage half brother Philip. Life seems good until Philip and several other children disappear. Then of course there is the dead body.

It is apparent that the purpose of this book was to catch us back up with Aurora after her long absence rather than present us with thought provoking mystery. We did get further insight into the broken relationship of Philip's parents. The story was slow moving and Who Dun It portion of the mystery was rather apparent. However, I was so glad to be back in Aurora's world that I did not mine the slow pace of the book so much. Since I see this book as the entryway for future adventures.

Long break for a good story

I've read the rest of the series and was surprised to see this book pop up on a recent search. The story is good but I found the narrator a little monotonous. An enjoyable book with just enough surprises. I felt the older books gave Roe more of a personality - funnier and more outgoing. But I will continue reading the series.

The voice matters

I love Charlene Harris’s books. She has a totally different voice than this reader. Too cutesy for the content.

Loved this book

I always watch the Aurora Teagarden movies on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel, but this is the first of the books I have read or listened to.
The story is an emotional one but very intriguing. The narrator was very good in distinguishing one character from another.
I thoroughly enjoyed both the story line and the narration.
If you like suspense, I wholeheartedly recommend this Audible book.
