Publisher's summary

“Novels rich in imagination, detail, and surprises requires a narrator who can embrace every element of the story - Alison Larkin is that narrator.” (AudioFile Magazine)

Great Classic Children’s Stories (Volume One): Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen and Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve.

Twenty hours of Great Classic Children’s stories are brought to sparkling new life, read by award-winning audiobook narrator Alison Larkin.

“The well-known characters in the much-loved story of Peter Pan are enlivened with humor and excitement in this gem,” raves AudioFile Magazine about Peter Pan, which won an AudioFile Earphones award and starts the collection.

The Princess and the Goblin, the very first fantasy novel that famously influenced Lewis Carroll, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein, tells the story of eight-year-old Princess Irene who lives in a remote region with no one but her nursemaid for company. Meanwhile, deep in the heart of the earth lurk grotesque and hideous creatures plotting vengeance against humankind...

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass have become international best-selling audiobooks and have received rave reviews worldwide. “Larkin's narration is simply brilliant,” says Michael Gates Gill.

The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen and our bonus story Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve continue to enchant children of all ages to this day.

A Wonderful Delve Childhood Stories.

As an audiobook, we should get to the important part, first off, the voice that is going to be reading this story to you. This particular voice belongs to Alison Larkin, and my first thought was "motherly." This reading really feels like the stories are being read by a mother or grandmother, and have that loving flair you might always hope to deliver to your own children as you read.

As for the stories themselves, these are the real thing. These are not your Disney remakes or "reimaginings," but the real dark and gritty stories that had some moral truth to them, with some happy thoughts thrown in for good measure. People die, gruesomeness abounds, and sometimes, get this, bad and reckless people get their comeuppance. These stories are not sanitary. Sometimes that is what we need in a good story. Now you can show your kids the real stories that turned in to those silly cartoons. Undoubtedly, you get more from this collection than you get with most audio-book purchases, and if you are stuck at home, or on a long trip, you will have a lot to keep you occupied.

I requested a free review copy of this collection, with expectation of my honest review. Thank you for allowing me to listen to and review the books!

Absolutely delightful! And what a deal!

Alison Larkin has a reputation for being able to bring the classics to new life in the modern age. Her narrations are always accessible and riveting but Oh! Whoever came up with the idea of bringing Larkin's most famous children's narrations together in one collection deserves a big pat on the back! Peter Pan, The Princess and the Goblin,Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass! We'll be listening to these on a long car drive from Maine to Florida in February. 20 hours of Alison Larkin narration! What a treat! Thank you Audible!

Great narration and well done production.

Alison Larkin does a great job of narration on this series. The books are all classics and are enjoyable.
I was most excited about George McDonalds book the Princess and the Goblin being included.
The biggest disappointment is that books like Peter Pan are less exciting in the original format, there are plenty of dramatizations of this book that are more exciting then the original version. However, if you love the original classic novelization then this would be great for you.
I received the book for free in exchange for an unbiased, honest review.

Lovely narration

This is the fourth book I’ve read/listened to by Alison Larkin and I would listen to another. She does a lovely rendition of these classic tales. Her voice is pleasant, her cadence comfortable, and her subtle use of voices is appropriate to differentiate the characters.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.
