Publisher's summary

Every new year of life is an undiscovered country.

There’s no map through our later years, and the new terrain can bring anxiety and uncertainty, when our souls are more preoccupied with what has been lost than what is to come. While our physical stamina, independence, and career fulfillment decline, each of these losses invites us to grow, inward and upward. God calls us to let go of our need for fulfillment and embrace the gift of fruitfulness so that we might be transformed in this final season of our lives.

In Aging Faithfully, spiritual director Alice Fryling guides our walk with God in a vulnerable time, listening for his voice and responding. As we age, something unusual happens: God renews us from within, when we allow him access. As we accept our responses to the aging process, we grow closer to God and experience his grace.

Are you open to increased hope, joy, and transformation? Would you like to grow in life-giving ways ― no matter the circumstances? Do you have the courage to let go of former ways of thinking to receive love and life in new ways?

We all age differently, and God calls each of us to new spiritual birth as we mature. Whether you are approaching the beginning, middle, or end of your senior years, you are invited. Come and be transformed.

Next Steps

I felt the author was very understanding of her topic and audience. The thought questions gave added insight into the questions we all will face sooner or later.

Excellent Subject Matter

Focuses on a very needed topic, with helpful insights and valuable methods for addressing this phase of life. Going to suggest our three adult children read/listen to this informative book.

accuracy and compassion for aging experience

I drew comfort from the content. I am 71 and it is an uphill battle to accept at times.

Excellent material on aging.

I enjoyed the wisdom of the book. The book study group to which I belong had helpful, independent conversations about the books content.

My discomfort with the narrator may be because I've heard her before doing good work as a main character in a novel. With this book I missed the kind of inflection I would have e pected from the author. More pausing, less just naming words to get to the end. It wasn't that off for me but enough to be distracting.

What a great perspective on an issue we will all face

Alice had such an encouraging perspective on how God continues to love us, care for us, and work all things together for our good when we trust Him, trust His plan and rest in His provisions. I have listened to it over and over to “remember” once again, God is here, God is good, and God is able. Things are different, but still good, in fact, even better than we could have asked or thought.
