Publisher's summary

R.I.P. = Reanimated, Infernal, and Pretty damn dangerous

Struggling actress Esther Diamond, whose year got off to a rough start (what with incarceration, unemployment, and mystical death curses), finally catches a break when she lands an acting job.

She's hired to reprise her guest role as prostitute Jilly C-Note on The Dirty Thirty, a TV crime drama about depravity and corruption in the New York Police Department. Esther's ex-sometime boyfriend, NYPD's Detective Connor Lopez, hates that show with undying passion - especially after Esther convinces her narcissistic co-star to shadow Lopez on the job, in order to add verisimilitude to his performance as a morally bankrupt cop.

But Esther's fellow thespian is her best bet for keeping an eye on Lopez 24/7 - and, more to the point, on Lopez's new partner, Detective Quinn. Esther and her friend Max, a 350-year-old mage whose day job is protecting the city from Evil, suspect Quinn of being involved in the latest mystical mayhem to menace Manhattan...

Corpses suddenly aren't staying quite as dead as they should.

While Max and Esther try to determine what Quinn's role is in the supernatural reanimation of the deceased downtown, a dangerous foe with deadly intent changes everyone's dinner plans one cold winter night...

Performed by Colleen Delany, Thomas Keegan, Bob Payne, Tony Nam, Tim Carlin, Jeff Allin, Michael John Casey, Patrick Bussink, Wyn Delano, Cameron McNary, Todd Scofield, Jacob Yeh, Eleanor Todd, Maggie Donnelly, Alejandro Ruiz, Jonathon Church, Laura C Harris, Peter Holdway.

Loved it however…

I loved the whole series, however it’s been almost ten years is there another book coming??? I hate when things end like that. So if you don’t want a disappointing ending don’t read. Otherwise it was great. The author just needs to finish the series.

Every previous book has been well done. I enjoyed the cast preformances. The ending is open. I hope there is more in future.

Entertaining time spent with characters I enjoy

I've really grown fond of Esther as a character and enjoy her adventures as a working actress, as a fellow theatre professional it's surprisingly accurate. The mystical is usually more interesting and felt a little thin on this installment. I'm sad that the whole Lopez mystery isn't resolved and this seems to be the last book. I was looking forward to more interaction between Max and Lopez as his protege and to find out is Esther has a mystical connection herself. The performances are all solid as well, the plot just a bit thin. And is disappointing it appears to be the end.

Caught in a loop - series going nowhere

Seven books in and Esther is still a struggling actor, Det. Lopez still has no clue magic exists, and the two of them are still on-again, off-again. The magic is sparse, limited to whatever’s causing the mystery.
Add recaps about how Max got his familiar, Lucky’s wiseguy ties, and Det. Lopez’s maybe-magical-mojo.

Wanna guess how this book ends going into book 8?
Yup, you got it in one: no resolution or movement on any of the aforementioned formulas.
Even if the next book were available in Audible Plus, I wouldn’t continue.
I kind of regret moving past book 3.

I'm glad this series ended

the last 3 stories felt unnecessary. not a good story and very predictable. main character makes painful choices that felt almost deliberate to try and create conflict. everything feels forced. I really enjoyed the first few of the series but only finished it hoping it would improve like before.
