Critic reviews

"It's hard not to love a book dedicated to the Glee star's grandmother...Colfer gets off many good lines [and] the nifty ending ties the plot's multiple strands up while leaving room for further fairy tale adventures." (Publishers Weekly)

A well deserved prequel

When you hear prequel, you go oh no, the author done messed up. I fell in love with the fairytale world with Alex and Conner. I have been waiting for the next chapter with the granddaughter, but this book made me realize that I wanted more, the origin of Alex and Conner’s grandmother without knowing it. Colfer’s ability to create a masterpiece is just breathtaking. He is a true gem. Still blown away with this and can’t wait to listen to it again. Hoping for more.... Past or future.....

amazingly relevant

This book may be one of my new favorites. While seemingly about a young girl and her quest to find her calling in life, this story has a strong undercurrent of the struggles those who find themselves in the minority experience and how they must stand together to overcome hatred, discrimination and ignorance. I found myself wanting to post quotes of passages that are so important for humanity to hear right now! Chris Colfer, you are my new hero.

Extremely well performed!

Well written! Interesting story with some unexpected twists. Extremely well performed! I kept yelling “remember you can do magic” when the kids keep forgetting that they could. Had to remember that it was written about kids for kids. LOL

Wonderful Book and Storyline

This book is well thought out and has a great story line. I have been obsessed with Chris Colfer’s books since I was in middle school. I was surprised and excited to find out that he, himself is reading the book. I recommend this book to anyone that likes fantasy and fictional books that have to do with magic. The book has a bit of a slow starting but it is well worth it! Amazing book and illustrations on the book cover and inside the book! :)
