Publisher's summary

In this rousing conclusion to The Saga of Roland Inness, King Richard has called up Roland and the legendary Invalid Company to serve in his grinding war against King Philip of France. It's a conflict where brutal mercenaries ravage the land and take no prisoners and where a king's favour is for sale. As Roland leads the Invalid Company into harm's way, his old enemy buys his way out of exile and threatens all that Roland holds dear back in England. Can Roland and the Invalids survive the war in France with their reputations intact? It's a question of honour!

Read this series in order

Well researched. Good plot. I couldn't put it down. I hope there are more to come.

A fitting end to an entertaining series

Wayne Grant can write an action scene that holds my attention! Even though those of us who have read all seven novels in the series have heard this formulaic clash of arms before, it never fails to capture my imagination. It was also a wonderful window into the horrors of war and the incredible self-centeredness and cupidity of the leaders of old, as well as the leaders of today. How willing these members of the aristocracy or plutocracy, depending on the era, are willing to sacrifice the lives and well being of the men who serve under them so that the men at the top can gain power and riches. I will never again think of Richard as a lion hearted king but instead as a rash, heartless, and ultimately foolhardy king who laid waste to the lives of so many men on both side of the English channel. This would make a great series for cinema or TV. There is much to learn here along with the entertainment of a rip roaring yarn.

Great Story Telling

Wayne Grant did a great job on this series. Nice volume of books to listen to and they do not miss a beat in starting the next book. It took me a little to gel with James Young's voice, but over time he and the characters blended well. Hard when a very good series comes to an end.
