Publisher's summary

On the morning of September 26, 1974, the body of Fern Cowen Rodgers was discovered on the floor of her home in Searcy, Arkansas. The 68-year-old socialite was murdered, sometime in the night, by two bullets fired into her head.

This is the story of that crime and the subsequent investigation and trials. It's a tragic tale that would eventually play out - in bits and pieces - in magazines and newspapers throughout the United States.

Authors Deana Nall and Mike Allen provide a fresh look at the decades-old murder-based on court records, police documents, and personal interviews-showing exactly what happened in a crime that captured the attention of an entire state, and beyond.

Highly recommend

Just binge-listened o this book on Audible. The research and details that went into the book are so impressive, especially considering that these events happened nearly 50 years ago. As a Searcy native, who was in elementary school when these events took place, it brought back so many vivid memories of what the places and local people were like in the 1970's. There are so many recognizable names and places mentioned in the book. Such a good listen! Thank you for the look back.

Gripping, realistic crime story

The storyline, details of the evolution of the case and the realistic uncertainty created by the authors rings true to real life. I finished this book in 5 days because I could not put it down. It reminder very much of the Law & Order series, except there was more room for detail.
