Publisher's summary

The inimitable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher and her husband Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher seem to get a reprieve from their sleuthing duties when they are invited to the wedding of their friend, Lucy Fotheringay.

Lucy's grandfather is hosting the ceremony at his beautiful estate and so it promises to be a typical affair with hordes of gossipy aunts and other colorful, but not necessarily pleasant, relatives. Daisy meets all these characters and observes the ensuing familial fraternization with a certain kind of amusing nonchalance. That is, until Lucy's great aunt is found strangled to death in her bed. Lucy, in the meantime, has arranged to meet her betrothed in the conservatory, but when she arrives she finds him trying to revive her uncle, who has died - or has he been murdered? And just like that, a normally celebratory occasion turns suspicious. Now Daisy must sift through a throng of relatives - aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents - once wedding guests and now murder suspects. And she must find the killer quickly before another family member becomes a corpse.

murder or wedding

2 murders and 1 attempted murder before Lucy was supposed to get married. Sends Alec and Daisy into the investigation. Interesting ending.

A lovely cozy 'listen'

I enjoy listening to this narrator as the mystery unfolds. I needed to refer to to the genealogy chart a few times...hahahaha.

Right amount of characters

Some of the books have too many characters to keep track of, especially the plots revolving around wills and inheritance. This story was a little cleaner.

Dalrymple at her best

Story was quite good. But the narrator was shrill at times in her effort to distinguish Daisy from Lucy. I found myself wincing.

a favotite Daisy and Alec mystery

Caomrola Dunn is a great at creating casts of colorful people for her stories. Here she is magnificent delivering some of her best characters in a sprawling family wedding.

excellent comedy, character work, an engaging and interesting mystery. I really enjoyed the tension. This really feels like one of the best in this series and I think could stand on its own.

the major downside for me personally was that I honestly wanted a chapter wrapping the story up. how did the other qedding guests react to the truth? how did the solution wrap up events for them? what did Gerald's parents think? this was a great collection of people and their interactions with the solution to thenpuzzle would have been interesting to me.

Formulaic but solid plot

The relationship between Daisy and her husband falls short of a genuine emotional connection. Contrived as it is it provides the stage for numerous english police procedurals. This one winds the plot slowly and keeps the killers a secret til the end

the voice acting leaves me cold

not liking the new narrator. Her voice is shrill and her characterization of Lucy is off-putting. she makes Lucy sound like a spoiled teenager instead of an independent woman who has scorned the lifestyle her parents and friends want her to live. the shrill voice she uses is painful
