Publisher's summary

A Family Affair is where it all began...Heartache, Betrayal, Forgiveness, Redemption...all wrapped up in the people you will love to love, and those you will love to hate!

When Christine Blacksworth's larger-than-life father is killed on an icy road in Magdalena, New York, a hundred miles from the 'getaway' cabin he visited every month, she discovers a secret that threatens everything she's always held to be true. Her father has another family which includes a mistress and a daughter. Determined to uncover the truth behind her father's secret life, Christine heads to Magdalena, prepared to hate the people who have caused her to question everything she thought she knew about her father. But what she finds is a woman who understands her, a half-sister who cherishes her, and a man who could love her if she'll let him. The longer she's around them, the more she questions which family is the real one…

Loved every moment

This was a great story. A fresh topic told beautifully by Campisi. You can’t help falling in love with this untraditional family. The characters are well developed and relatable. Ragan did a wonderful narration. Her voice floated through the story with skillful emotion well matched for Campisi’s characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to fall in love. A feel good book. I can’t wait to start the next one.

Sorry not my kind of book.

I've heard so much about author Mary Campisi, I wanted to try one of her stories. Sorry, after just two paragraphs I knew this was not a book for me. I gave this three stars, I didn't think it fair to give a lesser count when I am the one that refuses to read the language and sexual content.

Good premise

I got this book on my Kindle, then bought the Whisper-snyc version. I liked the parts I read much more than the parts that I listened to, because the narrator's voices annoyed me.

Scandal in the Family

What made the experience of listening to A Family Affair the most enjoyable?

The narrator was able to personify each person with a vocal range that brought to life the feelings of pain, hurt, sorrow and also the deep seated turmoil evident within the psyche of the main personalities.

What did you like best about this story?

Unconditional love, forgiveness, family interaction and also two sisters who met under difficult circumstances, but learned to love each other and gained acceptance because of their common heritage.

Which scene was your favorite?

Lily's reaction to meeting Christine was so heartwarming, she was so joyous as her longing to meet this sister she loved so much was finally a reality. Her dreams came true. This was my favourite moment.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There was so much heartbreak within this book, my heart was touched. But the melding of the love and joy this second family brought into the lives of the siblings made me smile and shed a few tears at the pathos of it all. It was amazing that Christine could become a part of the other family.

Any additional comments?

The characters were well developed and the story line was uncommon and gave a look into the hearts of people who vacillate and accept less than what they are worth. The author was able to bring some understanding of the why of the situations portrayed. The writing style kept the story interesting, too. To me, it was believable as similar stories have unfolded in real life.

This was the first Mary Campisi book I have listened to and I will be listening to more of her works. She is a talented writer. You could easily follow her characters through the story. It had some parts that were adult themed. Overall I really enjoyed this book.

A Family Affair

What secrets do we hide from 🦈our selfs? The story was awesome. For how long can the secret be there, before the truth is there for the family to know.
