Publisher's summary

From the New York Times bestselling creator of The Iron Druid Chronicles comes the final book in the epic fantasy trilogy that began with A Plague of Giants, about a war that broke a continent—and opened the door to a new world.

Seeker and Sower

Pen Yas ben Min’s cousin was one of the legendary heroes of the wars against the giants until her untimely death. Pen has grown up in her famous cousin’s shadow, but when she’s given a quest to plant the seed of the magical Fourth Tree, she has a chance to step into the light—and usher in a new age for her country.

Fighter and Friend

Abhi’s life—and the world—changed when he discovered a lost magic: the power to speak to animals. After fighting so many battles, he’s weary and longs for home and his love, Tamhan. But before he can return, there is one last mission that only Abhi can complete: to speak to the colossal creatures who wait beneath the waves—the krakens.

Sailor and Explorer

Koesha and her shipmates have already made an impossible journey by navigating the Northern Yawn, at the end of which she secured an unusual cloak. But when that cloak turns out to be the key to unlocking the mystery of the Seventh Kenning, Koesha has to risk everything on another life-threatening journey and hope that she can steer her crew to safety.

Great world building

Luke Daniel’s range of voices combined with Hearne’s world building stand out in a crowd of Fantasy sagas. The magic system is interesting and the history and detail put into this series is amazing. The only thing that I didn’t care for overall were a few earthly words/idioms used in the series, but they are few and far between.

Excellent conclusion to an excellent trilogy

A fitting end to the trilogy. Day 52 is really something. Both of the narrators continue to knock the voices out of the park. Thanks for this ride Kevin!

Beautiful

I have never cried and smiled through the closing chapters of any book in my life and will always keep the characters, their stories, and their lessons with me forever.

A satisfying conclusion

A satisfying conclusion to this interesting trilogy. With a combination of horror, action, and tongue-in-cheek comedy, this series from Kevin Hearne sets up a world of unique forms of magic, framed through the lens of a recounting of an invasion.

The story has a wide cast of characters with their own unique viewpoints, and wraps up the loose ends fairly cleanly with no mysterious foreshadowing of a growing evil to setup another trilogy.

That being said, the world is rich enough that there are many more tales that could be told in this world setting, I look forward to a return to the world of the 7 kennings again in the future.

The Best Finish to a Series

I absolutely adore this series and I was so excited and nervous for this book. It was amazing. I have already listened to it 3 times. A great ending to a series and was definitely surprised by some of the book. I would rate it higher if I could!

A hugely satisfying part 3!

I loved everything about this book! Kevin Hearne created a masterful flow of all the storylines and characters. The voice acting by Luke Daniels and Xe Ssnds was nothing short of incredible! I was so entertained by the whole package that I truly did not want it to end.
Please give this whole trilogy a listen! It's totally worth it!

The Characters and World Building and Humor

I love a funny fantasy and this was whimsical without being silly. The characters are thoughtful, the magic system is creative and the drama is compelling. I loved it.

Very Satisfying End

This was a VERY satisfying end to the trilogy. There was a great balance of action, tragedy, humor, and "cock sonnets". The character development that was so well done in the first two installments continues and every one of the large stable of characters has a well written end, if not always what you might have wanted for them, but that's a hallmark of good writing. Hearne's style stands out just as well in this epic as it does in the episodic format of The Iron Druid Chronicles. The performance by Luke Daniels is, as always, very well done. Xe Sands is a little difficult to listen to for my ear. Not that she gives a poor performance at all, but she uses the same tone, accent, inflection, and cadence for multiple characters, so it's difficult sometimes to know whose story you're listening to. That's not a deal breaker by any means, just a minor critique. As I've said, this is a great ending (an epic fantasy with an actual ending?!?!?!) to a very ambitious story and it was tied up with an extremely humorous last hour. Hearne was already up there in my favorite authors list, but this nailed down his place in my top five.
