Publisher's summary

A worldwide sensation with more than 12 million copies in print, Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series has produced number one best-selling novels and earned a fiercely devoted fan base. Another spellbinding entry in the series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes continues the saga of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century time-traveling wife, Claire.

The year is 1772, and the rift between Britain and its American colonies has put a frightening word into the minds of all concerned: revolution. In the backwoods of North Carolina, violence has already reared its ugly head, as cabins have been burned to the ground. To preserve the colony for King George III, the governor pleads with Jamie to bring the people together and restore peace. But Jamie has the privilege, although some might call it a burden, of knowing that war cannot be avoided.

Claire has told him that the colonies will unite and rebel, and the result will be independence, with all British loyalists either dead or exiled. And there is an additional problem. Claire has discovered a newspaper clipping from 1776 that tells of Jamie's death.

With its epic scope, historical details, and sweeping romance, A Breath of Snow and Ashes is everything Gabaldon's fans love and more.

THANK YOU!!!

It is about darn time!!!! Thank you sooo much for releasing the unabridged version! Now if we can just get The Fiery Cross it will be perfection!!! I love these books and to leave one iota of any of them out is sacrilege!

Broken into parts?

I seriously hate how this book is broken into parts. If you want to go back into another part to register to something... good luck. For some reason I only have the option to select chapters in part 3 and 4 even though I have everything downloaded. What a stupid idea.

Very good overall

I liked the action in this book -lots of suspense - but after following Jamie, Claire and their family through five other books, you can find yourself feeling pretty anxious when bad things happen to beloved characters. There's a fair amount of sadness in this one, with the ending feeling devastating in some ways (no one important dies, just so you don't worry 😊). It just felt like things were about to blow up at any minute with the Indians, the English, and/or other bad guys. I wanted the Fraser family to have more good times to better balance out the hard times, but I still enjoyed it.

Davina Porter is the BEST voice I've ever heard on Audible. Her work on all these Outlander books is masterful!

I just can’t get enough of Jamie and Claire

What made the experience of listening to A Breath of Snow and Ashes the most enjoyable?

The narrator, Davina Porter! Someone please give this lady an award! I could never actually read thiis series because the audio version, with Porter, brings this story to life!

What did you like best about this story?

There’s so much action, scandal and drama in this book that it makes it hard to put down. I’m so glad Diana Gabaldon gives us different POV’s from the characters. The humorous and touching dialogue keeps you sucked in.

Which scene was your favorite?

**SPOILER ALERT**

When Roger and Brianna realize that little Jemmy IS indeed Roger's son. *tear*

Who was the most memorable character of A Breath of Snow and Ashes and why?

Jamie and Claire. It's their story.

Any additional comments?

Diana Gabaldon’s last 3 books have actually been way too long and contained a lot of unnecessary stories. Many people find the last few books too long and boring. So with that in mind, you should only continue with the series if you are a true “Outlander series” fan and enjoy the characters. Being a huge Outlander fan I myself enjoyed the book.

It just keeps going....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - I love the Outlander series as a whole.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Every time I thought this book was drawing to some sort of conclusion or overall cohesion it would just continue on page after page down seemingly tangential paths. Granted I love the series as much as the next Diana Gabaldon junkie, but my word this was unreal. Ultimately the story pulled together in the end. However, I felt that it was done hastily as though the Gabaldon realized she should probably finish the book and get it over with.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

Claire is, as always, the best.

Who was the most memorable character of A Breath of Snow and Ashes and why?

Claire and Jamie are and have always been my favorites. Their love for each other is wonderful, comical and inspiring just as life itself.

Any additional comments?

I hope Diana Gabaldon can hit her stride again in the next book. I miss the pace of of the first book, Outlander.

My Favourite Book in the Series Since Outlander!

I'll be honest, the book previous to this one (The Fiery Cross) was a bit of a slog. I enjoyed it, but it was still a challenge to get all the way through. However, this book totally made up for that and then went on to exceed all of my expectations. This book is by far my favourite in the series, with the exception of the first book (Outlander), and is defintely a re-read.
