Publisher's Summary

What The Daily Show is to evening news, The Colbert Report is to personality-driven pundit shows. Stephen Colbert brings his sarcastic charm to a half-hour report, tackling the important issues of the day and telling his guests why their opinions are just plain wrong. Stephen stands for "truthiness" and his American right to copyright that word and claim ownership of it.

The author describes his audiobook as a simple audiobook from a simple mind: Stephen Colbert's. In plain conversational language, not to mention the occasional grunt and/or whistle, Stephen explains his take on the most pressing concerns of our culture: faith, family...hygiene.

Why now? Stephen fears America has lost its balls and he hopes to re-ballify us...even the ladies. Ladies can have balls: lady-balls too. Stephen likes to call those "Thatchers". Stephen will show how he got his mammoth swinging sack with tales of courage and vital documents from his own life, including the Mother's Day card he made at age six, disputed credit-card bills, and putt-putt score cards - all the major milestones.

    "Funny, but disappointing."

As a long fan of the Daily Show, and the Colbert Report, I was excited to see that the Daily Show team had made the book "America The Book". I downloaded the audio and have since listened to it dozens of times. I was, is, and always will be, overwhelmingly funny. So when I saw that Colbert had released his own version of a comedic audiobook, I didn't hesitate. To be fair, the book is entertaining, more entertaining I think if you have not seen too much of the Colbert Report show. But it falls way short of the comedic genius that was "America the book". It is my opinion that the Colbert character, while funny, is best served in doses with other characters mixed in. The thing that made "America the book" so good was the collaboration of the various Daily Show comedians, Stewart, Colbert, Bee, Black, Cordery, etc. "I am america" is basically Colbert in a monologue with a few interruptions, it consists of a rehashing of much of Colberts hilarious stereotypes of a right winger into book form. If you think the Colbert Report is better than the Daily Show, this book is definitely for you, buy it now! Personally, I have always preferred the more balanced comedy that only Stewart and his team or comedic personas can create.

"Love it or hate it , no middle."

Rarely do I read reviews with so bimodal a distribution of reviews and stars.

    Love it or hate it.

    I laughed till I hurt.
    My wife finds it silly/offensive.

If you like the Colbert Repor' you will find it a lively dose of Steve in a different method of delivery.

If you find Steve Colbert's style of irreverence, cynicism, disrespect for any and everything funny buy it and enjoy and laugh. The art of laughing at ourselves, our society and our way of life is his forte.

If you find Mr. Colbert's style of humor tasteless or tiring or too cynical move on and keep shopping.

    I loved it.

    "A Little Effort Please"

This was nothing but a disappointment. I'm a big fan of his show and this was no where near that caliber. It's not clever, just fairly unfunny things said in character. I'm wondering if he saved money by not letting his staff writers help on this.

    "Where is the rest?"

I too bought the book as soon as it was avalible. It is a great listen. My only problem with the book is it is abridged. I would like to have had the option of the unabridged version of this very funny book.

Doesn't offer anything to think about. His writers must have been on strike when he put this out. Love the show.

    "okay read"

I laugh out loud when I watch his TV program and I was expecting the same level of humor in the book. It was funny, but it was not the political humor that I was hoping for.

    "Scuba Lessons"

2 of my friends and I listened to this book while we drove to Scuba lessons. As much fun as the scuba lessons were, we had the drive to look forward to also. Of course I'm the hero since I paid for it. If I have any complaint: there is just not enough Colbert on Audible. More Colbert, Sarah Silverman, and Jon Stewart. If you like this get the interviews on Fresh Aire with Terry Gross. I don't know why I wrote if you like this... you will like this as the laughter puts you in tears.

    "Not funny"

What a disappointment; I smiled twice. I never laughed once. I'm a big fan, so I'm saddened by this waste of time.

    "The Great American Book"

As soon as I saw this title for sale I bought it immediately and listened to it straight until the end. I was not disappointed by this book. It is one of the funniest books out there. If you enjoyed "America (The Book)" you will love this. It is brilliantly read by Stephen Colbert along with many guest voices such as Jon Stewart and Amy Sedaris. My only problem was that it wasn't long enough. I am definitely going to buy the book when it comes out as well. Stephen is an American hero!
