Publisher's summary

Caitlin Diggs will have more to worry about than her on-again, off-again romance with her FBI superior when the goddess Isis appears in her mind. Is this a trick or perhaps an evil entity linked to her psychic gift offered by the crystal? The crystal has offered Caitlin psychic gifts but also a strange connection to the Star of the Sea, or Isis. Even her cat Bastet seems to share in this linkage.

To make matters more complex, Diggs finds the Ennead has returned to Earth as promised. But are they here to share secrets of the pyramids or to take over? Murders and a mass demon disappearance coincide with their arrival to invite not only high strangeness but high suspicion.

Now Diggs must question if she is under the influence of gods, aliens, or a criminal concoction of both. Because she can't fingerprint the "gods", Diggs’ search for the truth will take her to an unparalleled journey she could never imagine.

Time traveling to ancient Egypt may very well reveal the truth of our origins and Caitlin's true destiny with the crystal entity - but at what ultimate price?

Very cool story!

This very inventive tale will make you wonder about our origins. The writing and narration are both equally superb.

engaging

i was skeptical when a friend recommended this to me. but it's a nice little story about a woman who goes into the fbi and---well, i don't want to spoil it. but suffice it to say--not boring!

Really good paranormal mystery

I thought it was a really good paranormal mystery. It has great character and scene development. Interesting story line. The reason I took some marks off is that I felt it was a little too long, a little too much details.

Wildly Different

Since I listened to book 2 and then book 4, there is a little bit of a gap in Caitlin's transformation as a character; although, I think we get enough detail to somewhat piece together how she had transformed and some of the events that lead to her current investigation in an alternate universe. Often I have a hard time getting through sci-fi books in general; however, this book (and series) incorporates a diverse variety of elements from other genres such as mystery, romance, and fantasy/paranormal that makes it a "sci-fi" book I can actually enjoy. There is an incredible amount of detail and description throughout the entire book, which made this a book I had to listen to twice to fully understand and absorb the storyline in its entirety. 9 Incarnate as a whole was somewhat fast paced and flowed really well. There was clearly a lot of research involved to blend the history of the Egyptian Gods into the story. I think I personally would have liked the inclusion of the Egyptian Gods more if I had had more prior knowledge and would have been able to have a better idea of them before listening. I liked that author was able to make the new transformed Caitlin/Isis/Caitlin impersonator different but just as likeable, strong, and relatable as Caitlin had been previous books; because she is an awesome character and I find myself intrigued by her.

I thought the narration was pretty good; however, I am not as happy with the narrator's performance in this book as I was with her performance in book 1, Blood Web. I feel like her performance made this a harder listen in general because there were quite a few instances where I felt that I just simply couldn't tell who was speaking because there wasn't enough character voice differentiation.

Another great Caitlin Diggs story

Starta writes well, and definitely tells a great story. I like the books in the Caitlin Diggs series, and I was honored to be able to listen to this one as an audiobook. It's a wonderfully told story, and the narrative fits the plot. Diggs is a remarkable character, and her investigative techniques blend perfectly with whatever mystery she needs to solve. Mystery, fantasy, and a bit sci-fi within the grand story. The attention to detail is imperative when writing a suspenseful book, no matter the background or genre of the story, and this works, without all the unnecessary details that bog down a story. I enjoyed this book and will always read whatever Starta writes, without expectation.

9 Incarnate

I really enjoyed the story it was very well written but the narrator was a bit blah in my opinion. I had to speed it up to 2x it be able to tolerate it... I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys law enforcement/ magic books.
