Whaaat?!

Ok, I was so excited for this book. Villains meet Harry Potter meets Hunger Games… enough said. Loved hearing from all the different characters and how they are going into the tournament as well as how they grow through out.
But the ending??? Ahhhh no!!! I just…. I’m still baffled.

It’s really good. Well written and it’s fun to see which characters you like from the start and who you still like at the end.

I love how amazing the narrator was, very interesting If you like a darker scene. Dark romantic, twisted and evil.

I can't wait for the next book! I really enjoyed the characters and need to follow their development to the end.

Ok, but nothing exceptional

This book was ok. Just ok. If I were a teenager I would probably have loved this book. It had some Romance, some drama and some danger. The problem is that I have read it all before, and seen it done so so so much better. I see the comparison to hunger games, but would also throw some red rising in the mix (red rising is by far the better in my opinion - that I recommend!) The characters have some interesting features initially, but by the end of the book it becomes clear that the character development is lagging and whatever potential there was is lost. By book two it has evolved into a soap opera whit plot holes bigger than some countries. Still, for younger audiences or people who want an easy and mildly interesting book to consume while waiting for better books it is good enough. I liked the narrators overall but I think that especially the male narrator spent his “passionate” voice a bit much and in sections that did not really need it making it loose some of its effect when it came to parts that actually called for some drama and feeling. Still, they were pleasant enough to listen to.

Who Would Love this Book?

I went into this book blind and I came out almost 13 hours later a different person. This book was a darker version of Hunger Games and I suggest this book to anyone who loved that book series! I was kept on the edge of my seat almost the entire time! The characters are lovable and relatable, their backstory are so heart wrenching and at the same time loving.

Chapters out of order

The story is amazing. However some of the chapters are out of order compared to the text of the book.

The audiobook is not broken anymore

The audiobook seems to be fixed - I had no issues with it, and I really enjoyed the performances (especially the female narrator’s voice for Alistair). The story surprised me at how immersive it was, and this good character work was not something I expected.

But, the stakes are higher than that this time around. You'll follow a cast of characters as they fight, ally, betray, and kill each other...until the cliffhanger ending! Can't wait for the next book!
