Publisher's summary

“This suspenseful and witty first novel in a new series is a perfect match for narrator Lorelei King." (Booklist)

"Narrator Lorelei King works well with the subtly snarky style of author Darynda Jones...Listeners will look forward to the next installment of this new series, as some mysteries are solved, and others remain." (AudioFile Magazine)

New York Times best-selling author Darynda Jones is back with the first novel in the brand-new snarky, sassy, wickedly fun Sunshine Vicram series - A Bad Day for Sunshine!

Sheriff Sunshine Vicram finds her cup o’ joe more than half full when the small village of Del Sol, New Mexico, becomes the center of national attention for a kidnapper on the loose.

Del Sol, New Mexico is known for three things: its fry-an-egg-on-the-cement summers, strong cups of coffee - and, now, a nationwide manhunt? Del Sol native Sunshine Vicram has returned to town as the elected sheriff - thanks to her adorably meddlesome parents who nominated her - and she expects her biggest crime wave to involve an elderly flasher named Doug. But a teenage girl is missing, a kidnapper is on the loose, and all of this is reminding Sunshine why she left Del Sol in the first place. Add to that the trouble at her daughter’s new school, plus and a kidnapped prized rooster named Puff Daddy, and, well, the forecast looks anything but sunny.

But even clouds have their silver linings. This one's got Levi, Sunshine's sexy, almost-old-flame, and a fiery-hot US Marshal.

With temperatures rising everywhere she turns, Del Sol's normally cool-minded sheriff is finding herself knee-deep in drama and danger. Can Sunshine face the call of duty - and find the kidnapper who's terrorizing her beloved hometown - without falling head over high heels in love...or worse?

Not as good as I wanted it to be

I love the Charley Davidson series and have listened to the series more than once. With this book I had to keep refocusing my attention. It was not terrible and had some great moments. There was still a lot of witty humor.

Loved it!

I love when Lorelei King narrates books. She just has an easy flow and a nice voice. I love Darynda Jones as an author! This story literally had me on the edge of my seat trying to guess what was going to happen next! I love it when I can’t predict what’s going to happen! Mystery, humor, and more mystery makes a good book for me!

An entertaining, gripping beginning!

Sunshine's first book grabbed hold of me, held on tight and took me for a wild ride! I absolutely fell in love with the characters, laughed my butt off and even cried. So many twists and turns with Darynda's humor showing every step of the way. I really love how strong of a character Sunshine is. She is smart, brave, funny, doesn't need a man to rescue her, but isn't afraid to ask for help either. Lorelei King did a fantastic job with narration and really brought the characters and story to life. I can't wait for the next book to come out!

Next Book!!

Is not out until NEXT APRIL. I really lived this story. One small gripe, I wish they painted a image of Sunshine better. You can easily see her daughter Aurora well, with her red red coppery hair. Good story, I really enjoyed it.

A Great Day for a Darynda Jones book

Jones is one of my favorite authors. Her books are filled with my kind of humor so it was an easy decision to try out her latest. This one kept me entertained, made me cry and laugh and managed to surprise me too. I hope that Sunshine has a very long series and can’t wait for book two to come out soon!!

Great debut in a new series from Darynda Jones

No summary or spoilers here.

I loved Jones’ Charley Davidson series and was disappointed when it came to what felt like a pretty abrupt close. It had a little romance, a little mystery, a little paranormal, a lot of humor. This new series has a good blend of genres as well. I like the characters, I like the writing, and I see lots of room for stories to grow. I will definitely be on the lookout for the next installment in this series. I hope Ms Jones has loads of ideas to keep this character busy for a long time.

Where do I fall on the reader spectrum? I like to read 2-6 books per week, mostly light and fun stuff like mysteries, historical fiction, modern fiction. I don’t mind things that are a bit predictable if the writing is good or if I really like the characters, especially if the stories are enjoyable and the narrator is good. I’m an omnivore. I love Alexander McCall Smith, Patricia Briggs, Rhys Bowen, Kerry Greenwood, Craig Johnson, Michael Connelly, Diana Gabaldon, Robert Jordan, Lyndsey Davis. One of my favorite reads in the past year was Where’d You Go Bernadette? I watch lots of mystery on Acorn and BritBox but I’m currently binging The Ranch, Man with a Plan, and StarTrek Discovery. Sometimes I read reviews and wonder which ones to listen to, whose preferences might be similar to mine - so if you like or hate any of what I like should tell you whether my opinion of this book helps you.

Loved it!

I am going to thoroughly enjoy this series. As always her books are phenomenal. This one was a little bit predictable to me when it came to Sunshine but does not take away from the story at all. Cant wait for the next one.
