Publisher's summary

We aren’t temporary, baby.

New York Times best-selling author S.L. Scott pens an emotional and raw opposites-attract second-chance billionaire romance.

Warm brown eyes that melted my unsuspecting heart.

A smile that knocked me off my feet.

His touch—raw electricity.

I never saw Harbor Westcott coming.

I was a small-town girl with big city dreams and more ambition than money to my name. He had everything—money, privilege, and the world at his feet. Opposites in every way, but that didn’t matter. We were lightning in a bottle, and everything felt possible when we were together. Life was perfect.

Or so I thought....

Years later, I’m no more prepared for him than I was the first time. He swears on his life that we are meant to be forever, but I know I can’t survive this man twice.

Oh Harbor!! Is any human really that good?

I thought the storyline was okay. Maybe a little over dramatic but okay. The storyline kinda dragged on in the middle and then the ending wrapped up quickly. I think there wasn’t enough given to the mother storyline. It just all worked out in the last 30 minutes of the book. The narrators made it worthwhile though. Perfect narrators for the characters. Worth a credit for me.

Unanswered Questions

Overall a decent story. I give it 3.5 stars. I liked Harbor and Lark’s story but don’t understand why they had to split for her to attend school. IMO there were many other options.
The reason why Harbor’s cousin killed himself was left dangling. Was it drugs, being cut off financially from his family or the stealing? Was the aunt Harbor’s father’s or mother’s sister? Why was this aunt never confronted? Why did Lark’s mother not contact her sooner? Perhaps these things are revealed in a book about another family member. Decent listen but the title doesn’t at all fit the story. Who titles these book?

Swear on my Life review

Kept me engaged and at one point I was sure it would not be a happy ending for Harper & Lark.

Amazing

Another amazing book by Suzie. Harbor seems like just another rich kid on a college campus, when in his young life he’s been through more than most can imagine. Lark has worked for everything she had, including the scholarships to get her through school l, which includes medical school. Growing up without a mim, Lark surrounds herself with only a small trusted group of friends. When she meets Harbor, she is not ready to let him or his family in. After multiple run ins, they both realize there is something there. Harbor finds himself trusting Lark more than anyone but can never fully give her his truth. That is not to say he doesn’t love her more than anything and is willing to do what is best for her and her future, no matter what is does to him. There are so many gut wrenching punched in this story, the biggest with one of her best friends that killed me. Their love may be soul deep from the beginning but getting to a place in life they can be together is not nearly as easy. Be prepared for a roller coaster.

warning: not really a 2nd chance romance

First, I want to say that I REALLY loved this book. It was a very good story.

But, if you read a lot of romance you will notice that this plot is not really a 2nd chance romance except in the barest, technical terms. The blurb that summarizes the book does not begin until Ch 40/48. In a 2nd chance romance, the blurb would be the start of the romance (in the middle as it were, with the past gleaned along the way) ratger thab a nod at the end. The book IS just a romance. There is very little of the book devoted to the "2nd chance."

But, it is still a very good book in it's own right.

Totally worth it.

Narration is great (as usual from Ava and Jacob) and the story is refreshingly real.
