In a match-up few could have predicted at the start of the Tournament of Audiobooks, and in one of the closest contests we’ve witnessed, Taylor Stevens’ The Informationist emerged victorious over Diana Gabaldon’s The Fiery Cross and is this year’s Champion of Audiobooks! The debut thriller (and the first in what promises to be a strong series featuring Vanessa Munroe) was a true Cinderella story, providing a much bigger challenge than its #7 seeding would suggest. In its path to the finals, fans of the debut voted for it over Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder and Stephen King’s 11-22-63, making for one of the great runs in Tournament of Audiobooks history.

Of course, Diana Gabaldon’s The Fiery Cross was a more-than-worthy competitor. For a book that was written more than 10 years ago and falls in the middle of a series, The Fiery Cross had a tremendous showing – as Davina Porter’s unabridged performance of the book was a long-awaited addition to our store. With remarkable fan support, The Fiery Cross provided some great upsets of its own, defeating two #1 seeds, Patrick Rothfuss’ The Wise Man’s Fear and Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84, on its way to the finals. With such passion behind the Outlander series, we want to make sure that anyone who hasn’t yet heard these amazing performances has the opportunity to try them out, so The Fiery Cross and the rest of the series will be on sale for just $7.95 each until May 1, 11:59 PM ET.

Big thanks to all the competitors in this year’s Tournament of Audiobooks, and the enthusiastic and passionate fans who voted round after round – and congratulations to The Informationist!

A Breath of Snow and Ashes continues the saga of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century, time-traveling wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and the rift between Britain and its American colonies has put a frightening word into the minds of all concerned: revolution. In the backwoods of North Carolina, violence has already reared its ugly head, as cabins have been burned to the ground. To preserve the colony for King George III, the governor pleads with Jamie to bring the people together and restore peace. But Jamie has the burden of knowing that war cannot be avoided.

Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army. And Jamie isn't the only one with a tormented soul - for Claire may know who wins the conflict, but she certainly doesn't know whether or not her beloved Jamie survives.
