Published 150 years ago, Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species - the text that introduced the world to natural selection - is among a handful of books that have changed the world. But the route to that status has been surprisingly circuitous and uncertain. Now, in 24 absorbing lectures by an award-winning teacher, you'll learn the remarkable story of Darwin's ideas, how scientists and religious leaders reacted to them, and the sea change in human thought that resulted.

this was an awesome course really walks you through all the steps, that the theory of evolution had to take to get to where it is now, as close to scientific fact as gravity is!! this isn't a polished book though and some audible listeners may get aggravated over the many times that the lecturer has missteps. but it doesn't take away from the experience at all.

When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Lucifer is back in Heaven, God is on vacation, and an insane killer mounts a war against both Heaven and Hell. Even for Sandman Slim, that’s a tall order. And it’s only the beginning.

With tainted meat the weapon and corporate greed the motive, The Knowland Retribution is an extremely topical suspense-revenge thriller. Walter Sherman, AKA the Locator, is a tracker who honed his skills in Vietnam. The colorful cast of characters also includes Sherman's two friends--a bartender with a mysterious past and an old black man who smokes like a chimney; a feisty young woman who writes obituaries for the New York Times; a southern lawyer who has lost everything and has only one thing to live for; and more.

i found this series through the tv show the finder. which by the way was a great show its currently on netflix. its a shame they just had 1 season. the book is hard to follow at times especially if you cannot devote your full attention to it, it jumps from character perspectives from chapter to chapter and the chapters can be extremely short. i drive while i listen and sometimes i would be distracted and miss the switch. it lead to many rewinds. other than that i found it slow to get into but once i was hooked i was caught!!! i was riveted to this tale. i thoroughly recommend it.and with audible you can feel secure knowing you can return it if its not your cup of tea! the narrator did an awesome job as well!

James Stark, a.k.a. Sandman Slim, crawled out of Hell, took bloody revenge for his girlfriend’s murder, and saved the world along the way. After that, what do you do for an encore? You take a lousy job tracking down monsters for money. It’s a depressing gig, but it pays for your beer and cigarettes. But in L.A., things can always get worse. Like when Lucifer comes to town to supervise his movie biography and drafts Stark as his bodyguard.

  • Hope After Faith: An Ex-Pastor's Journey from Belief to Atheism

Atheism's leading lights have long been intellectuals raised in the secular and academic worlds: Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and the late Christopher Hitchens. By contrast, Jerry DeWitt was born and bred into the church and was in fact a Pentecostal preacher before arriving at atheism through an extraordinary dialogue with faith that spanned more than a quarter of a century. Hope After Faith is his account of that journey. DeWitt was a pastor in the town of DeRidder, Louisiana, and was a fixture of the community. In private, however, he'd begun to question his faith.

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

sound like Nicholas cage and not in a good way. the story should have been set in california not new jersey. the story is really lighthearted at times but it takes you to some really dark places. at times you feel like your reading a stephen king book at disneyworld! but after saying all that i enjoyed it except the cartoony nic cage voice.

When he was 19, James Stark was considered to be one of the greatest natural magicians, a reputation that got him demon-snatched and sent downtown - to Hell - where he survived as a gladiator, a sideshow freak entertaining Satan's fallen angels. That was 11 years ago. Now, the hitman who goes only by Stark has escaped and is back in L.A. Armed with a fortune-telling coin, a black bone knife, and an infernal key, Stark is determined to destroy the magic circle.

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

i listen to more guy friendly books, more of a John Grisham, Micheal Connoly, Jim Butcher, kinda guy. and it took me a little bit for this book to get me hooked but when it did it set the hooks in deep. if like me you like a little more action upfront. give it some more time it is worth the payout.i loved it and i hated when it ended. also i don't give many reviews but i think this GEM is marvelous.
