It’s Christmas Eve, 1938, and 15-year-old Cassidy Smith is very pregnant with the child of 40ish Reed Hooker. Cassidy is desperate to marry Reed, Reed is desperate to open Louisiana’s hottest new taxi-dancing emporium and neither are prepared for the arrival of Reed’s wife, Sue Jack Hooker, a dangerous beauty who has just been let out of the penitentiary.

At first I had a hard time getting into the story. But once I accepted it for the old timey radio broadcast it was performed as, I kind of enjoyed it. After all, at $3.95, the price was right!

Hannah Payne awakens to a nightmare. She is lying on a table in a bare room, covered only by a paper gown, with cameras broadcasting her every move to millions at home. She is now a convicted criminal, and her skin color has been genetically altered. Her crime, according to the State of Texas: the murder of her unborn child, whose father she refuses to name. Her color: red. The color of newly shed blood.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

    Story

One of the most drawn out, uninteresting, vulgar pieces of trash ever written. What a waste of time and money. A very ludicrous story line. When his wife and daughter-in-law said the book needed trimmed down a lot, they were not kidding. So many characters that had so much detail that never meant anything in the book. A ridiculous story with an unbelievable journey to nowhere. Could hardly force myself to finish this book, and yet I kept rereading parts to try to understand. There really is no understanding. If you liked the Lost TV series, you might like this nonsense. It is not even a reasonable allegory to anything. I hope I can get a refund. I cannot believe there is so much difference that I actually prefer the TV series.

The world is changing - the government has seized control of almost everything and kids are disappearing. For 15 year-old Wisty and her older brother, Whit, life turns upside-down when they are hauled out of bed one night, separated from their parents, and thrown into a secret compound for no reason they can comprehend, except that the new government is clearly trying to suppress Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

What is missing from this story is any semblance of Patterson's writing. It reads like a 13 year old girl composed it. The entire story seems to be missing something. Maybe a book for 10 yr olds, if they can handle the subject matter???

In a pulls-no-punches essay intended to provoke rational discussion, Stephen King sets down his thoughts about gun violence in America. Anger and grief in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School are palpable in this urgent piece of writing, but no less remarkable are King's keen thoughtfulness and composure as he explores the contours of the gun-control issue and constructs his argument for what can and should be done.

Of course Stephen King has a great voice and reading style, but this essay falls very short of being complete. He mentions several things early on that he fails to follow through on. He is misleading in that he draws the reader in by leadng you to believe that it just might be an unbiased essay. It could not be further from the truth. Before you reach the end he shows a very mouthy liberal bias. His essay becomes very foul mouthed and then it becomes hard to really listen to it. Yes, Mr. King, you should stick to your fiction books.......and clean up your potty mouth. The essay was almost worth the 69 cents I paid for it.

Very "tinny". Sounds like you are down in a can listening. Jack Sondricker's voice is great, bordering on a Paul Harvey type commentary. However the recording is at a very poor bit rate......Why?
Is it that hard to get a good recording in this day and age? Or was it cheaply done? I was very excited to see this book now done unabridged on Audible, but I am so disappointed in the sound. There is some improvement on the pc over the Android phone or Kindle.
Come on Audible, we are on your format now because of failing eyesight. The sound is everything!

I really enjoyed this book, however........ I waited with fascination for a key connection that never seemed to happen. There are 2 characters from history that never quite came together. Reynard and T-Rex. The original Reynard the Fox was developed during a socialistic era of time. Rexism-or Socialism with a Rex or King was never developed into the present day story. Why start two characters that are never going to be explained? The whole Fox and his den could have been carried out a little fuller. Perhaps I missed something, or perhaps in the next book?

Dexter Morgan is not your average serial killer. He enjoys his day job as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Department... but he lives for his nighttime hobby of hunting other killers. Dexter is therefore not pleased to discover that someone is shadowing him, observing him, and copying his methods. Dexter is not one to tolerate displeasure... in fact, he has a knack for extricating himself from trouble in his own pleasurable way.
