Terrific story and great narrator! Ive enjoyed all the books in this series, but this is the best. Many twists and turns.
I'm sitting here with tears running down my face as I finish listening to The Nightingale. Each time I hear stories of the atrocities that were carried out during world war 1 by the German army against the Jewish people as well as anyone else who stood in their road toward world domination, I am always so ashamed of what humans can do to other humans. I also cannot understand how so many people could have blindly followed a madman to have done the things that were done. The Nightingale made the story of the holocaust have a face, with this particular family, and how it affected them and how they reacted to the cruelty, and then treated their fellow human beings. I think a lot of us feel that one person can't make a difference in evil such as went on during that war. This book shows how a small group of individuals made the difference in so many lives for generations that would not have existed without their sacrifice. This book is not lighthearted reading but it is a terrific read and one I highly recommend.
I just loved this story! Abby was such a loving, patient and kind mother especially considering the kind of childhood she had. Matthew was the kind of love we would all like to have. This book showed that a pregnant woman can be sexy and desirable. I loved the way Abby and Matt interacted with her children. The narrator did a super job of voicing the different children which showed each individual childs personality, showing their fears caused by their fathers lack of any kind of involvement in their lives. I really enjoyed Matts extended family. It shown through the story that a big part of the reason Matthew could take on a woman with 4+ children was because of how he was raised. This is a great book!
I just loved this book! Everything about it was great. The story, the narrators, everything! The author used just the right amount of description of the characters that were principle to the story as well as the people who were part of the back story. There was a real story here, not just sex scenes held together with a little narration. The way the author built the relationship between Archer and Bree had just the right pace from the time they met and how they fell in love. I had a momentary scare there, thinking the author had written a horrible ending but phew!! It turned out good.
The books in this series are like nothing I have ever read or ever expect to read again. I have re-read all the previous books several times just longing to go back to that feeling of being part of the lives of people who are so brave, smart and funny. People I wish I could know or be like. Does anyone really have a husband like Jamie or a wife like Claire? I listened to all the books in the series and I can't imagine getting as much out of them reading them as I did from listening to Davina Porter reading them. I knew by the voice which character it was. She brings so much to the story with her accents, intonations, expressions and all the things she does to put emotion into the words. I have looked high and low trying to find any other series that is even close to this one and the only one close is Sara Donati but it wasn't nearly as long. I finished the book this afternoon and I feel like a friend that I had gone years without seeing came to stay a few days and has now left. I feel lost. I guess I'll have to go back and start over with the first book and listen to them all again. I hear that Starz is going to do a series of Outlander this fall. I guess i'll have to get Starz. I will be holding my breath hoping that they do it justice and stay true to the books. Thank you so much Diana, for the hours and hours of pure pleasure as well as making history so interesting to me. You are such a talent. Please bring the next book to all your rabid fans as quickly as possible.
This book was ok but is in the group of books lately that seem to be following the same storyline of the Shades of Gray series of books. Even the personalities of the main characters r similar enough to make a reader get confused as to which book what happened in because you could insert a scene from one series into the others.
I found this book such a big disappointment! I have been listening to this series from the beginning with the first book. I've loved thim all. My only complaint up till now had been the long time between each book. Each time the wait was worth it. Not this time. This book seemed to go off in so many directions with so many characters that I had to get a list of all the characters that have been in this or any of the other books to try to help me with the confusion. The book was advertised to be about Wrath and Beth and their desire to have a baby but it was a good half way thru the book before this topic was really delved into. There was just too much jumping around from couple to couple without really having a clear direction for any of them. Wouldn't recommend it for any lover of this series.
This book will keep you up at night after reading it. Milla Edge has made it her lifes quest to find stolen children after her own was stolen. Have a box of kleenex handy and maybe a bottle of tums while listening to this book.
This is a sweet love story with really hot love scenes. Wasn't thrilled with the narrator. She sounds like she's trying to talk without moving her lips! I found that very distracting, but after the first half of the book I got used to it.
I read book 3 before I read this book(book 1). If I had read this book first, I would not have read any of the rest of this trilogy. In this story, the male love interest, Gabe, does everything we are warned about watching out for in someone we, or our friends, daughters, or any women are warned to watch out for. I had a really icky feeling in my stomach thru most of this book. I don't care how much a woman thinks she loves a man. No one should ever think its ok for a man to treat her like Gabe treated Mia thru 80 % of this book. I would personally, never have been able to look at myself in the mirror if I had allowed someone to treat me this way. And what is it with rectal sex? Would a straight man think it arousing to have to walk around with a plug stuck up their butt while they were at work? I just don't get it! All I can think about during those segments of the story is how un-hygienic this is and all the medical issues that can happen. Most of the treatment of Mia by Gabe would make alarm bells go off in the minds of most women. I found it unbelievable that any woman would sign a contract such as the one that Gabe supposedly insisted all his women sign! Maya Banks books usually portray strong women but boy this one really missed the mark.
