This is the first time I've listed to this narrator...and it will be the last! I purchased this book a month ago and have not been able to finish it. I love the St. Kilda series, but this narrator is painful. She reads as if she has a toothpick in the corner of her mouth! Why, Why, Why!
I couldn't tell you anything about the book, other than I've tried to start it 4 times and can't get past the annoying reader! Reader -1 Star! I'm hoping what I can take from the book earns 2.
I really love this series. I appreciate the growth the characters show in each new tale. This is one of my favorite in the series and I'll definitely give it another listen. For me the characters are as much of a drawing point as the story itself. I think this book was really well balanced in showing the growth of the characters (mainly Eve of course) as well maintaining the quirkiness and oneness of the team as a whole.
The narration by Susan Ericksen is a key component for my love of this series as she vocalizes the personalities and emotions of the characters and situations in the books. Some label her as being a dramatic reader and count it as a negative - however I see that as a major plus! I listen to books for mental escape not to hear someone read. Very few narrators can achieve that or become so essential to a book that they ARE characters. I can't begin to imagine these characters without hearing them in the voice that Susan created.
I think JD Robb/Nora Roberts should be applauded since she knows how to keep a series going. Other authors should take a page out of her book when it comes to releasing new titles. I'm very selective it what read or listen too - when it comes to narrators and authors - I'm sick of having to wait 1 - 2 years before an author publishes a new work. So, JD and Ericksen...keep it comin'!
I'm a fan of Sophie, Anatoly, and the gang. There is not much Kyra can do with these characters that I probably would not like since I've gotten to know them throughout this series...that being said, while I thoroughly enjoyed the story...I found myself missing Anatoly. If you are a fan of the series, you will enjoy this story...but you might find yourself asking what's missing like I did...
I'm pleased with the set up for the next book, because after this one I'm looking forward to lots of interaction/conflicts between Sophie and Anatoly.
Would definitely recommend.
I first read this book about 10 years ago and I LOVED IT! After hearing the audio book...I STILL LOVE IT! I just wish Elizabeth Lowell had continued this series with the characters (MACKENZIES) that are listed in this book...I was waiting to read Bluewolf & Cassie's story and Case's story then...and I want it now!
Laural Merlington, even did a great job reading this book...and that's saying something coming from me...because she is sooo not any where near one of my favorite narrators! I usually find the intonation or cadence of her voice very annoying (I know people love her as a narrator...I don't), it took me forever to actually purchase this book, simply because she was the one reading it, but....even she couldn't distract me from this story!
Steamy, yes! Exciting, yes! Jenna and Ty are characters that you will both love and at times want to slap some sense into.
Great Book!!! Great Listen!!
This book probably would have been a better listen with a less-perky narration. Natalie Ross did a great job on distingishing the characters, but the story narration was too brightly monotone. It made it hard to be intrigued by the storyline.
