  • The Black Box: Harry Bosch, Book 18

In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved. Now Bosch's ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue. Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the "black box", the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one that has listened to the previous recordings.

Would you be willing to try another book from Michael Connelly? Why or why not?

Only if you bring back the past narrator. This guy ruined it.

Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

    No

Would you ever listen to anything by Tim O'Brien again?

    No

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Bryan Cranston?

    okay

What character would you cut from The Things They Carried?

    Everyone

    Any additional comments?

I'm a Viet Nam vet and was offended by it. It makes us all look like we were young idiots with no moral fiber whatsoever. Some of those things happened but they were not typical of all of us. I served for 30 years, retired a Col. and do not think this book is good literature.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

    no

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Not Brown

What aspect of Paul Michael’s performance would you have changed?

Its not the frosting on the cake that is the problem.... it is cardboard cake.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No... its just like his other books... he is stuck in a rut and arrogantly claims his view is scientific truth not to be argued with. (Dan, go to net and type in Demographic Winter and watch the documentary and then tell me you are better informed than those interviewed)

    Any additional comments?

Too environmentally biased. He misinterprets Malthusian population math. Earth has both a population problem and a depopulation problem. Over 40 nations (most of the west) has an aging population because of below replacement level fertility rates. Those who should be reproducing are choosing not to and the result is a dumbing down the the population. This is a huge problem that Brown totally ignores and just plows ahead with 1960's era 0-population propaganda. Too simplistic approach to a very complex problem.

What disappointed you about No Easy Day?

Being a Special Forces retiree, we all know we don't publish works like this. The real story is about the intelligence community which Mark Owen knows little about. What he knows about lasts 20 minutes.

With two pulls of the trigger, the men who destroyed Stone's life and kept him in the shadows were finally silenced. But his freedom comes at a steep price: The assassinations he carried out prompt the highest levels of the U.S. government to unleash a massive manhunt. • Columbine

Over the course of this gripping narrative, Dave Cullen approaches his subjects with unrivaled care and insight. What emerges are shattering portraits of the killers, the victims, and the community that suffered one of the greatest - and most socially and historically important - shooting tragedies of the 20th century.

Book reader says: "Truth and heartache"
    "Very well done, but..."
    Overall

Well researched and written. It gave me a too close for comfort look into the minds, lives and unfortunately, the language of two teenage psychopaths. Their incredible lack of empathy for the human race, their amoral conduct and their skill at deception at appearing normal is chilling. If its true that one percent of the overall population have psychopathic traits... we live in a very scary world today.
