It was love at first sight. From the moment 17-year-old Arnie Cunningham saw Christine, he knew he would do anything to possess her. But Christine is no lady. She is Stephen King's ultimate vehicle of terror.

Where does Christine rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is classic stephen king. Great characters that you can actually care about, great story.
This story is worth your time.

What does Holter Graham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Narrator does a very competant job.
Spoiler alert* --- his does a great job of the back and forth Arnie-Lebay switching.

Who was the most memorable character of Christine and why?

    Dennis of course.

    Any additional comments?

If you like Stephen King, you'll love this. Somehow I had overlooked this one.
    Really a good listen.

Travel to other planets is now a reality, and with overpopulation stretching the resources of Earth, the necessity of finding habitable worlds is growing ever more urgent. There’s a problem though—because the spaceships are slower than light, any communication between the exploring ships and Earth would take years.

Tom and Pat are identical twin teenagers. As twins they’ve always been close, so close that it seemed like they could read each other’s minds.

Would you consider the audio edition of Time for the Stars to be better than the print version?

Quite possibly. Barrett Whitner sounds perfect as the lead character.

What does Barrett Whitener bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He perfectly captures the personality of the lead character. He could've been almost telling youn a story about himself.

    Any additional comments?

I am always a little leary of reading older sci-fi books. You never know how outdated some of the science may be. But Heinlein, like Asimov and Arthur C. Clark, manages to keep to the story and the characters and not get bogged down in pseudo science that is doomed to be outdated someday.
    GREAT READ!

Would you try another book from Kate Morton and/or Caroline Lee?

No idea what was supposed to be going on in this story.
the development was SLOW SLOW SLOW.
At no point did I really care.

The actually writing is quite good. The narrator has a charming Australian accent, which is very appropriate to the characters.

I just couldn't stay awake while the author got to the point. I was 8 hours in to the read and saw that I still had 15+ hours to go and couldn't for the life of me come up with a reason to stick with it.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

    What disappointed you about Outlander?

SLOW story, very predictable. At no point did I care. This read like a teen girl romance, where the actual plot wasn't even important in comparison to the "strong female lead."

I gave it about a quarter of a way through before I had to bail.

It's not a terrible book, but it's just not any good.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    narration was fine.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....

This book is flawless in what it aims to be. Simple storytelling, likeable characters and well read.

On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born to an English banker and his wife. She dies before she can draw her first breath. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. For as she grows, she also dies, repeatedly, in a variety of ways, while the young century marches on towards its second cataclysmic world war.

Would you try another book from Kate Atkinson and/or Fenella Woolgar?

    Yes

Would you recommend Life After Life to your friends? Why or why not?

No, the story is well written but lacks a certain depth.

Was Life After Life worth the listening time?

I did enjoy it and can't complain.

    Any additional comments?

It was so well written that as I went through the book I had to stop and think about how little had actually happened.

I think this book would appeal to many, it just was a bit 'empty' for me. There is no doubt that the writing flows well, and is written in a charming English manner.

The narrator's voice is pleasant and consistent.

No complaints at all, and I was entertained, but it simply wasn't a "page turner".

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

The story starts of quite excellent, the author's voice is pleasant and he navigates between characters quite fluidly.
The story itself breaks down slight in the last 5th of the book, but it is an entertaining read and I highly recommend.

  • Lost to the West: The Forgotten Byzantine Empire That Rescued Western Civilization

In AD 476 the Roman Empire fell - or rather, its western half did. Its eastern half, which would come to be known as the Byzantine Empire, would endure and often flourish for another 11 centuries. Though its capital would move to Constantinople, its citizens referred to themselves as Roman for the entire duration of the empire's existence.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lost to the West?

The author does a great job of giving the individual historical figures personalities, and very three dimensional personalities as well.

Justinian, for example, is not just shown as the great emperor casual history fans know, but also for his personality flaws. (Particularly his weaknesses in dealing with his wife!)

What about Lars Brownworth’s performance did you like?

    Excellent narration!

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommended. The reading is compelling, history as good story telling.
I know feel that I have a good understanding of the great history of the Eastern Roman Empire.
