  • Gifts: Annals of the Western Shore, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By Ursula K. Le Guin
    • Narrated By Jim Colby

In the Uplands, people have magical and fearsome gifts. Orrec, a boy growing into his powers, can destroy any living thing with simply a glance. But he refuses to use his ability, and wears a blindfold to protect others from his devastating gaze.

Ken says: "Book 3 won the 2008 Nebula Award"
    "LeGuin is guaranteed to please!"

This is classic Ursula LeGuin. She tells a story which is interesting, drawing you in to the action and at the same time teaching lessons about kindness, understanding and acceptance of yourself and others. She weaves this into a tale mixed with magic and fantasy. It is written for "children" but is a great read for any age.

  • Angels and Demons

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Dan Brown
    • Narrated By Richard Poe
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

World-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuries-old underground organization, the Illuminati. Desperate to save the Vatican from a powerful time bomb, Langdon joins forces in Rome with the beautiful and mysterious scientist Vittoria Vetra.

    "A bit of a disappointment"

I loved reading the DaVinci Code, so thought getting this as an audio book for a long trip would be a great investment. Must say my most recurring thought while listening was that this guy needs an editor. Way to much repetition, especially to emphasize the gore. It seemed like the story drug on and on. Even though there is a lot going on, the pacing seemed slow. I think it would be easier to read because you could skip over the redundant portions. This one put me off Dan Brown books.

  • Me Talk Pretty One Day

    • ABRIDGED (5 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By David Sedaris
    • Narrated By David Sedaris

David Sedaris' collection of essays - including live recordings! - tells a most unconventional life story. With every clever turn of a phrase, Sedaris brings a view and a voice like no other to every unforgettable encounter. You can also listen to Sedaris in an interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air.

Amazon Customer says: "You will ROFL"

My husband and I listened to this in the car on a long road trip. We were both laughing so hard we thought we were going to have to pull off the road or have an accident. David Sedaris is hilarious in general, but listening to him read his own material takes it to an all new level. His ability to take mundane life and twist it around is part of it, but his voice and expression make it a side splitting experience. This is one of the few authors where hearing the material is better than just reading it out of a book.
