In the late fall of 2013, a lethal pandemic virus emerges from the Islamic Republic of Indonesia (IRI) and rages unchecked across every continent. When the Jakarta Flu threatens his picture-perfect Maine neighborhood, Alex Fletcher, Iraq War veteran, is ready to do whatever it takes to keep his family safe. What could Steven Konkoly have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I think the concept of descent into insanity in response to a flu pandemic was just not remotely believable. I am not sure it would not have been just easier to go ahead and deal with getting the disease and taking the antiviral at the same time so that you could develop immunity and not have to hole up in house eating dried beans. How are they making mortgage payments and utility payments . One set of having disease and taking antiviral would be adequate to induce immunity. No need to hoard multiple sets of the drug treatment for one individual. Not medically believable. Not socially believable. just waste of listening time. And the ending was very unsatisfactory to me.

Every time surgeons operate, they're betting their skills are better than the brain tumor, the faulty heart valve, the fractured femur. Sometimes, they're wrong. At Chelsea General, surgeons answer for bad outcomes at the Morbidity and Mortality conference, known as M & M. This extraordinary peek behind the curtain into what is considered the most secretive meeting in all of medicine is the back drop for the entire book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I wait avidly for new medical mystery fiction. I found the realism of so many areas in medicine refreshing. I would definitely recommend this book

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Several of the plot twists hinged on the fallibility of human judgment.

    Any additional comments?

As a retired anesthesiologist, I questioned where the anesthesiologist was during the anesthesia history and physical which might well have elicited a red flag for the first brain surgery. I decided they must have shared negligence. I also wondered where the entire operating room team was for the

I cannot believe the number of stars given by the raters of this piece. I am a Johansen fan, but had to do this review after I listened and went back to see what others thought. I agree with the other one star reviewers and say ENOUGH ALREADY to the plot and execution of this read.
