"The unscrupulous new Council chair has charged Jace, Marc and me with trespassing, kidnapping, murder and treason. Yeah, we've been busy. But now it's time to take justice into our own hands. We must avenge my brother's death and carve out the rot at the heart of the Council. It's not going to be easy, and loss seems unavoidable, but I have promised to protect my Pride, no matter what...."

Gayle says: "Good Finish To the Series"
    "Great Story telling"
    Overall

The author has a gift for character development and telling an amazing story. However, a majority of the conflicts in the entire series stems from the main character "Faythe's" own immaturity/stupidity. It makes it very hard for me as an individual to truly fall in love with the main character. All that aside, the narration is great and the flow of the book leaves nothing to be desired.

Gavin Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. But Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live: Five years to achieve five impossible goals. But when Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he's willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Black Prism to be better than the print version?

I would recommend that everyone read the first book and listen to the second book from audible. The narrator does not do this story justice. The producers made an excellent decision by not inviting him to read the second book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Cristofer Jean’s performances?

Unless this narrator has learned to convey emotion, I will not endorse him narrating anymore books.

    Any additional comments?

This story is excellent and its approach to magic and new and refreshing.

For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art---and he is the city's most accomplished artist, his talents required from alleyway to courtly boudoir. For Azoth, survival is precarious, something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums and learned to judge people quickly---and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint. But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This audio book is definitely worth the price. The story and characters are unforgettable. Give this one a shot.

What other book might you compare The Way of Shadows to and why?

This book reminds me of the Shadow Dance series from David Daglish. The plots are very different but the characters leave a lasting impression. The characters are very memorable and the author doesn't spend most of every scene describing the environment. I appreciate setting in a book but describing the rocks and trees in every scene can get a bit redundant and annoying. Especially when the characters are extremely interesting.

    Any additional comments?

This is the first book in the series so it warrants your attention if you are interested in the assassin style fantasy novels. The story is good enough that if you have an issue with the narrator you can at least buy the written novels.
