A man with a painful past. A child with a doubtful future. And a shared journey toward healing for both their hearts... It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. The stranger understands more about it than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

Charles Martin is a consistently good writer His story plots are all very different and not predictable. He has a great way of drawing you in to the characters world through emotion. This book has very different theme and keeps you interested all the way through. I have read most of his books and have enjoyed all of them. Perfect narration.

In the words of Alexander McCall Smith: "You feel the rocking of the train, you hear the sound of its wheels on the rails; you are in the world rather than suspended somewhere above it. And sometimes there are conversations to be had, which is what the overarching story in this collection is all about. It is a simple device: people brought together entertain one another with tales of what happened to them on trains. It takes place on a journey I frequently make myself and know well, the journey between Edinburgh and London. It is best read on a train, preferably that one."

This book is written somewhat in the style of the 44 Scotland Street Stories. It consists of 4 different stories told in chapters each going back and forth between four passengers riding together on a train.. Each story very different but with a central theme, Love. Likeable characters made the stories they shared very entertaining.

Goodnight Moon is an adored childhood classic, but its real origins are lost to history. In Goodnight June, Sarah Jio offers a suspenseful and heartfelt take on how the "great green room" might have come to be. June Andersen is professionally successful, but her personal life is marred by unhappiness. Unexpectedly, she is called to settle her great-aunt Ruby's estate and determine the fate of Bluebird Books, the children's bookstore Ruby founded in the 1940s.

I have never read anything by this author and was pleasantly surprised. I liked her style and loved the setting in the Bluebird book store.I Have recommended it to my book group
as the selection for August.. I was fascinated by the friendship between the owner of the store and the famous Children's book author Margaret Wise Brown. Through letters we got to know them well.
Did not really like the voice of the narrator She sounded too old and did not do multiple voices well. I Wish she had a softer voice, she sounded too loud and raspy.
But I liked the story so I tried to get used to the voice.
Will look for another by Sarah Jio but hope to see another narrator.

I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent book. It is so refreshing to find a modern author that does not have to rely on bad language, violence, or steamy sex scenes to carry the story along.
The plot concerns a young woman who finds a box of old love letters when she is renovating an old house .Intrigued by the letters she sets out to find the author,a WW2 veteran living in a nearby town with his devoted handsome grandson .The book is full of likable characters and believable situations all set in a delightful beach town in Florida.

The narration was first rate and I will certainly look for more books by this author.
Thanks Audible for making this available.

Another riotously funny book by Ann B Ross. Even after so many books about Miss Julia I have not tired of the characters. I often wonder where she gets the unusual plots.
The narrator, Cynthia Darlow is a master of all the characters voices. Her voice for Lillian and grand daughter Leticia make you feel like you are right there in the kitchen with them.
    Eagerly awaiting next years installment.

I WAS a fan of Charles Martin but this book was a big disappointment. He has sacrificed his usual good writing with a lot of crude dialogue about body functions and salacious situations with Tyler, the Texas Ranger and "Sam" the woman he rescues. Too much detail about learning to shoot and "manhood" I guess this is a guys book.
I absolutely HATED the little girls "letters to God" her voice was cloying and the content stupid and unbelievable for a 10 year old who had gone through trauma.
The male narrator was the only good part of the book. Skip this one!

I already knew I liked Charles Martin. He is a very good writer. However when I started listening to "Unwritten" I almost lost interest after the first half hour or so.( Too many fishing references). Because I usually love his stories I continued on. I am so glad I did. This book really went over the top. The characters story were very different and you were not sure where the plot was going to go. The narrator was excellent. He really made you feel as if you were there watching in the background . I absolutely loved Sunday/Peter what a man! If you have never read Charles Martin this is where to start!

Drawing on exclusive interviews with dozens of Paperclip family members, colleagues, and interrogators, and with access to German archival documents (including papers made available to her by direct descendants of the Third Reich's ranking members), files obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, and lost dossiers discovered at the National Archives and Harvard University, Annie Jacobsen follows more than a dozen German scientists through their postwar lives and into one of the most complex, nefarious, and jealously guarded government secrets of the 20th century.

A very interesting documentation of Operation Paperclip and what lies hidden behind the American Scientist Programs in post war America. The systematic cover-up of facts that dozens if not hundreds of Americans took part in , to bring NAZI WAR CRIMINALS to America to further our Space and Chemical Weapons Programs .
How some in the Military whitewashed the Nazi pasts of dozens of Doctors and Scientists allowing them to live the "American Dream", become respected members of the space pioneer elite and escape punishment for their atrocities during WW2.
The narration (by the author)was not as good as a professional but a fascinating story.
