if you are like me you quickly burn through your favorite authors on audible and then have to mine for a nugget , this isnt one but it is flecked , alot of other reviews compare it to stand by me , but that is not right it is closer to IT than SBM and closer to the goonies than Salems lot I like alot about this book except I cannot for the life of me think why Dan simmons spent so much time describing how brilliant the fat kids father was, together the son and father invented everything except the ipod 50 years ago , but it is still worth alisten if you have the credits and hours to burn.
Lots of apocalypse novels follow the formula this one does it well
I have to say that the narrative is extremely rape happy
I get that people would eat people but ,this book puts sex On an equal footing with survival and in doing so it lost me, the moriarty character was glaringly lifted from the postman , but other than that this book is exactly what the title suggests good clean fun
I read a review that said listening to this narrator made one believe that you were listening to Claudius himself , to me that is the best description I could make , and is high praise I couldn't recommend this book more
Also I loved the little digs in these books that basically say Homer wasn't the end all be all
Brandon Sanderson is young and brilliant in my opinion
I've consumed everything he's put out , he makes puzzling decisions about what to do I almost feel cheated each time he puts out a book that isn't part of the stormlight archive , which is so fresh and original and just well brilliant.
First I dealt with him typing Jordan's rehash and now this super hero , formula series ,
I just can't understand why authors today can't ride the thoroughbred in the stable
Steel heart was pretty good but I felt myself fading out on this one and not needing or wanting to go back to get it all.
It wasn't a waste but I didn't say wow
This book is filled with forced characters
I it just isn't well done I think the narrator added to the disjointed story with her wierd tempo and the abrupt chapter endings threw me off
It's like Stephen king and his silly rock band
Ellison clearly fancies himself an ACTOR
And he ain't but he is a very talented and unique writer . I get the feeling he's the kind of guy who would demand a narrator be fired for this performance .... If the narrator wasn't He.
In my humble opinion this book was over edited the catalyst to the only super natural aspect of the book felt underdeveloped , I liked it a bunch and it reminded me a lot of 11 22 63
If you criticize the writing you are an a $$
This book gives exactly what I want more westeros more Roy dotrice , if you don't get goosebumps when young bariston Selmy rescues Aries
And you don't chuckle when Roy nails the voice of pycell , then move on to the next twilight
You have to respect martins grasp of politics if nothing else.
This is my favorite of the series so far because it fleshes out all the other books
In my opinion they should start referring to Tolkien as the 20th century Martin
I loved the LOTR but Got is full of real people.
this is my favorite simmons story so far less snobby than hyperion and more fun its worth it just to hear Achilles throwing f bombs and what red blooded nerd boy hasn't wanted to fight in the Trojan war?
some of these authors have impressed me in the past but there is nothing good here or anything original really the mechanical man story is the best of a bad lot , the narration is really bad especially the super intense whispering guy and the woman who reads like shes late for something.save your credit.
martin and Abercrombie are predictably good, and Rothfuss is predictably mediocre I really don't get why he is so popular.
its a treat to hear roy dotrice read anything ,(neal gaiman should be read by him exclusively imo) and there is thankfully only a little scott brick you can get through it but really the only great story is martins .
as always please help stop scott brick and john lee ruining good stories by reading them aloud.
