Richard Dawkins' brilliant reformulation of the theory of natural selection has the rare distinction of having provoked as much excitement and interest outside the scientific community as within it. His theories have helped change the whole nature of the study of social biology, and have forced thousands to rethink their beliefs about life.

Harlan Ellison has won more awards for imaginative literature than any other living author, but only aficionados of Ellison’s singular work have been aware of another of his passions…he is a great oral interpreter of his stories. His recordings have been difficult to obtain…by his choice. In 1999, for the first time, he was lured into the studio to record this stunning retrospective.

It's like Stephen king and his silly rock band
Ellison clearly fancies himself an ACTOR
And he ain't but he is a very talented and unique writer . I get the feeling he's the kind of guy who would demand a narrator be fired for this performance .... If the narrator wasn't He.

If the past is prologue, then George R. R. Martin's masterwork - the most inventive and entertaining fantasy saga of our time - warrants one hell of an introduction. At long last, it has arrived with The World of Ice & Fire. This volume is a comprehensive history of the Seven Kingdoms, providing vividly constructed accounts of the epic battles, bitter rivalries, and daring rebellions that lead to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO's Game of Thrones.

If you criticize the writing you are an a $$
This book gives exactly what I want more westeros more Roy dotrice , if you don't get goosebumps when young bariston Selmy rescues Aries
And you don't chuckle when Roy nails the voice of pycell , then move on to the next twilight
You have to respect martins grasp of politics if nothing else.
This is my favorite of the series so far because it fleshes out all the other books
In my opinion they should start referring to Tolkien as the 20th century Martin
I loved the LOTR but Got is full of real people.

From the towering heights of Olympos Mons on Mars, the mighty Zeus and his immortal family of gods, goddesses, and demigods look down upon a momentous battle, observing - and often influencing - the legendary exploits of Paris, Achilles, Hector, Odysseus, and the clashing armies of Greece and Troy. Thomas Hockenberry, former 21st-century professor and Iliad scholar, watches as well. It is Hockenberry's duty to observe and report on the Trojan War's progress to the so-called deities who saw fit to return him from the dead.

Famine. Death. War. Pestilence. These are the harbingers of the biblical apocalypse, of the End of the World. In science fiction, the end is triggered by less figurative means: nuclear holocaust, biological warfare/pandemic, ecological disaster, or cosmological cataclysm. But before any catastrophe, there are people who see it coming. During, there are heroes who fight against it. And after, there are the survivors who persevere and try to rebuild. "The Apocalypse Triptych" will tell their stories.

Martin himself offers a brand-new A Game of Thrones tale chronicling one of the biggest rogues in the entire history of Ice and Fire.

martin and Abercrombie are predictably good, and Rothfuss is predictably mediocre I really don't get why he is so popular.
its a treat to hear roy dotrice read anything ,(neal gaiman should be read by him exclusively imo) and there is thankfully only a little scott brick you can get through it but really the only great story is martins .
as always please help stop scott brick and john lee ruining good stories by reading them aloud.

The year is 1348. Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysm - that the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict. Is it delirium or is it faith? She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon.

Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

Practically overnight, the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure fall, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every major city.

Would you listen to Patriots again? Why?

no the narrator isnt that good

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

no this is a very very dot to dot plot

Did Dick Hill do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    yes but just good

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

people have written that the book is a little technical term heavy , that is a gross understatement, while listening to it I thought of many alternate titles , my to favorites were,
Gadgets and weapons I like and situations I have Imagined using them in, and, I cant wait to commit mass murder and this is the situation that would make it ok.

    Any additional comments?

this book is very entertaining , it starts out kinda extremist god gun anti society and around three quarters thru it takes a sharp turn to the right.
one quote that stuck in my head was "our children will grow up in a free god fearing country"
the author is so backward thinking , that the book becomes entertaining
apparently one jew and two blacks will survive the fall. and the two blacks dont appear until the last frame deffinate I am not racist tacked on chapter.
this book came off like a parody to me I loved it
