  • Good in Bed

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Jennifer Weiner
    • Narrated By Laura Hicks
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Cannie Shapiro never wanted to be famous. The smart, sharp, plus-sized pop culture reporter was perfectly content writitng about other people's lives in the pages of the Philadlphia Examiner. But the day she opened up a national women's magazine to find out that her ex-boyfriend has been chronicling their ex-sex life is the day her life changes forever.

    Kickez says: "Pretty Serious Stuff...."
What would have made Good in Bed better?

Make Cannie not such a spiteful, unlikeable person. She truly was awful -- self-pittying, entitled, bratty, obnoxious and rude.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jennifer Weiner again?

I think each book is different, and would like to think that an author brings something different to every story they create. However, based on this book alone, no, I would not.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator did a fine job. Nothing outstanding, nothing terrible.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Good in Bed?

The last half of the book. was depressing and I nearly quit around then. I kind of got to the point where I just didn't care what happened to Cannie because she acted like such an awful individual.

    Any additional comments?

    Skip it.

  • NOS4A2: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By Joe Hill
    • Narrated By Kate Mulgrew
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Jacqueline says: "Finish to Start Excellent is Novel This"
    "Absolutely incredible."
Would you consider the audio edition of NOS4A2 to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, but absolutely loved the audio version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of NOS4A2?

The description of Christmasland...Hill uses such rich, descriptive language, it's hard to not get a completely clear picture of it in your head.

What does Kate Mulgrew bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mulgrew is phenomenal. Each character has a unique way of talking/voice, and it added so much depth and richness to the story. Her voice for Charlie Manx was creepy, unnerving, and perfection.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was a little slow at first, but after the first few chapters it really started moving. All the details Hill includes in the beginning is absolutely necessary and he really goes into a lot of depth in terms of character developments. In my opinion, not a single word was wasted in this book -- every sentence had meaning and impact to the story. About 1/4th of the way through, I was hooked, and truly did not want to stop listening...I pretty welcomed traffic at that point, since I listen to it driving to/from work.

    Any additional comments?

Phenomenal story. What a treat for us horror fans who like something a little twisted and darker. Kate Mulgrew is amazing at the reading, and I would love to listen to more audiobooks done by her. I finished NOS4A2 about 2 weeks ago, and I still can't stop thinking about. Hill is a master at what he does, and I would love to see a film made out of this simply to see if the visuals translate into what I had in my head while I was listening.

Absolutely recommend this to anyone who lives for thrillers/horror/something a little darker. Flawless.
