Max Tudor has adapted well to his post as vicar of St. Edwold's in the idyllic village of Nether Monkslip. The quiet village seems the perfect home for Max, who has fled a harrowing past as an MI5 agent. But this new-found serenity is quickly shattered when the highly vocal and unpopular president of the Women's Institute turns up dead at the Harvest Fayre. The death looks like an accident, but Max's training as a former agent kicks in, and before long he suspects foul play.

Would you try another book from G. M. Malliet and/or Michael Page?

I am a huge fan of G.M. Malliet. I would definitely try another book. Have greatly enjoyed the ones I have read.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Totally switched. Falling Glass. Adrian McKinty. Gerard Doyle a perfect voice for the story.

Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Page’s performances?

He has a lovely voice, just not suitable for this book. Lovely and too plummy! Seems to miss highlights of humor which this author is good at.

Do you think Wicked Autumn needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not sure the main character is interesting enough.

    Any additional comments?

I am sorry that the initial book on Audible from this author is a disappointment. I am a fan of her other books and am hoping that there will be more on Audible. A more suitable performer who could emphasize the humor and the spitefulness of some of her characters would be recommended.

I actually chose this book because it had a sequel but have no plans to read the next one. The premise was interesting. I liked the suspense. The tech stuff was fun. I wanted to find out what happened but just couldn't make myself listen to any more of the overly dramatic dialogue. If a superhero comic book could be made into an audiobook this would be it!
Note to self. Be more thorough in reading all reviews. Not everyone likes the same style.

Ellie Hardwick is a young architect, specialising in ancient buildings. Working for a Suffolk practice, she spends her days amongst the architectural gems of East Anglia - great houses, cathedrals, medieval churche,s and castles. In her work, she trips over the occasional corpse, ghost or wrong-doer. Architecture has much in common with detective work and Ellie uses her investigative skills to unravel ancient mysteries.

Would you listen to The Ellie Hardwick Mysteries again? Why?

Yes. Well read and well plotted. I am not usually a fan of short stories but these were a refreshing change. I am hoping that a future book will "star" this character.

Which character – as performed by Suzy Aitchison – was your favorite?

    Ellie, of course.

    Any additional comments?

Am a great Cleverly fan. Her characters become ones friends, or lacking that someone to watch out for. Well developed and interesting. Glad to meet a new one.

Harry is out of his depth. Detective Harry Hole is meant to keep out of trouble. A young Norwegian girl taking a gap year in Sydney has been murdered, and Harry has been sent to Australia to assist in any way he can. He's not supposed to get too involved. When the team unearths a string of unsolved murders and disappearances, nothing will stop Harry from finding out the truth. The hunt for a serial killer is on, but the murderer will talk only to Harry. He might just be the next victim.

Charles Atkinson says: "Probably the best of this remarkable series."

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. Have been looking for the book for some time. Thank you! Harry's time in Australia is mentioned in later books. Have read all available in US and wanted the book and the background!
That being said, one can also tell it is an early effort. Though I truly enjoyed it I felt it, "ran on a bit", in some stages. A bit less polished than later work. Not as intricately woven as later efforts but then, that is usual for most series. Must read if you are a Harry Hole fan!

Have you listened to any of Sean Barrett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I think he is a really an outstanding performer. Lots of accents, multiple characters, nothing seemed to escape his ability. A great reader! Added greatly to the book. I will look him up for future purchases.

Where does Not My Blood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Ranks right up at the top. I am a great fan of the author and the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Not My Blood?

The scene in the graveyard. Satisfying end to a legal problem.

What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Simon Prebble is such a great reader. He never appears to be reading the book, rather he makes one feel like one is there!

    Any additional comments?

I am a great fan of the author. Her characters are interesting and well fleshed out. The places where the books take place are well depicted and I enjoy the historical detail. The twists and turns of her plots are most clever. Always love the surprises.

.Lucas Davenport has seen many terrible murder scenes. This is one of the worst. In the small Minnesota town of Deephaven, an entire family has been killed - husband, wife, two daughters, dogs. There’s something about the scene that pokes at Lucas’s cop instincts - it looks an awful lot like the kind of scorched-earth retribution he’s seen in drug killings sometimes. But this is a seriously upscale town, and the husband was an executive vice president at a big bank. It just doesn’t seem to fit.

Enjoyable book.Great start for a new series with interesting characters and plotting. Lots of intrigue, abundant twists and turns, and true to form Italian politics..Commissario Alec Bloome is a complex and likeable guy. Looking forward to more of him.
Once I got used to a very British voice reading an American/Italian detective I was hooked. The plot kept me listening even when the reader sounded like he was falling asleep. The reader was uneven and sometimes achingly slow but portrayed the various characters well and has a good voice.
