I read this trilogy years ago, and loved it. I am loving it all over again. For me, this second book is wonderful because Ayla is such a strong spirit and her connection with animals intrigues me. It is also nice to have more humans for her to interact with. Can't wait for the next one!
This book was excellent. The story was incredible & the performance was perfect & easy to listen to. Initially, I wasn't sure where the story was going; then it occurred to me it didn't have to "go" anywhere. It was just a story about a Chinese man & his life. While it was very well written, at first I was sure that if I was trying to read it (rather than listen) I would quit because it is written somewhat simply. However I came to realize that is part of the beauty of this book. The end makes it seem as though there is a sequel....I hope so!
This was definitely a chick lit book. Predictable story line, but there were parts that made me laugh out loud. At the beginning I kept thinking I would quit, but I never did, and finished it. If you like a predictable chick story, this fits the bill
I had low expectations for this book. It had been on my "wish list" forever & I finally decided (because it was cheap) to give it a try. I figured if I didn't like it, I would return it and try something else. After all, life is too short to ready crummy books, right?
It was delightful! I was immediately drawn into the characters & the mystery of the 24 hour bookstore. Well written, full of surprises, & and an ending that made sense and closed all the loops!
This book is hard to classify into any specific genre. It is sort of a mystery, sort of techno-fiction (if that's even a real genre) and even has elements of sci-fi and fantasy now and then. But it was so enjoyable, I recommend to anyone who likes to get lost in a story.
I want to adopt Maggie!! She is a fictional dog, but seriously I fell in love. This is the perfect mystery/suspense story for dog lovers. Am hoping it's a series.
This was really good. I enjoyed the character development, and look forward to continuing the series. If you like suspense/mystery this is a great choice!
This book had too many words. I enjoyed the story, and the characters; however I felt like sometimes it was just too wordy. There were entire paragraphs that really did nothing for the story but were there nonetheless.
This book was a mix of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, horror and love story all in one. I enjoyed the suspense of what was going to happen next and how was all the weirdness going to be explained. There were parts that were downright creepy on the very dark, cold, 40 minute commute to and from work.
Read it. It's good
This book begins with a disclaimer: no dog dies in this book. That's true, but it was still a tear jerker in places. Excellent story, a must read for all dog lovers.
This was truly a great book. The first hour or 2 I was skeptical, but I am glad I kept at it. Well narrated, I enjoyed the 2 points of view. The twists in the plot were unexpected & kept it interesting. Recommended!
I admit, I struggled with this one for a bit. I didn't like listening to 2 different narrators. I didn't like the writing, it seemed awfully simplistic. I didn't even like either of the main characters. But I stuck it out, and I am glad I did. It becomes clear that the simplistic writing style serves a purpose, and it really HAS to be told by 2 different narrators; and while I still can't say I like either character, I loved the story they had to tell. The plot twists and turns, and at the end I was left almost breathless. Great suspenseful story!
I have listened to all of this series, and this was one of the better books. The story remains interesting, and this particular book has more interaction with other peoples.
