This book kept me spellbound. I have visited Turkey, but this provided more information than I have had before about the multitude of cultures there, and how they live. Really fills in some blanks about the cultures from previous reading. Great discussion book. I don't see more by this author in the audible store--would love to read more. Really liked the reader, BTW!
No. The book was repetitive, plot not believable, and characters poorly drawn and treated. Full of cliched ideas, and not well researched on the law issues.
Not sure, maybe a Frederick Forsyth.
Reader was excellent. I have not listened to her other performances. She just didn't have much to work with on this book. I felt sorry that she had to read so long.
The author needs a good editor and more research if she is going to deal with law issues.
The reader really embodied the story. You felt you were listening to the person talking, and telling this amazing story. The story was compelling.
The protagonist. He was all too real and human.
He really communicated the Indian accent and the feel of the story.
I have always liked Joseph Finder before but in this book he included offensive and disturbing torture and killing methods that are nothing more than gratuitous violence. In addition, many of the story lines defy reality, and do not make sense in the real world. I had to stop mid book and will not go back to it. I hope he will return to his more realistic and less graphically violent story-telling. Otherwise, I will not read him again.
Love the characters and particularly love the reader--he gets the author and the characters! Wonderfully entertaining and fun listen. Recommend to anyone who has a long trip, and guarantee you will want to read more of this author! I did!
Won't read Silva again. His characters have become cartoonish, and his plots repetitive and increasingly hackneyed. Descriptions ever more violent and unpleasant. The narrator did his best and was excellent but despite fine narration, the book was not worth the time or effort.
Write some more!
Hope he lives forever. This is the first one I listened to instead of reading and was not sure I would catch the nuances, but enjoyed as much as tho I read it. Very good narrator, too.
I liked the book so much I also bought a copy at the bookstore to peruse again. Would recommend (and have recommended) to anyone interested in our recent history.
For anyone interested in Cuba, this was a fascinating book, taught me much about Cuban culture and history; excellent reader, too.
