Alexander Kinloch is definitely the black sheep of his noble family, choosing the precarious life of a painter over a lucrative job in his stepfather’s brewery. But when a trusted assistant disappears with millions of pounds, Alexander is reluctantly thrust into a foreign world of bankers and auditors. Brutal thugs and jealous relatives stand in his way as he labors to save the business and protect the family treasures. In the face of adversity, Alexander must defend himself and his family’s honor to the hilt.

Gwendolyn Kidd has met the man of her dreams. He's hot, he's sexy, and what started as a no-names-exchanged night of passion has blossomed into a year and a half-long pleasure fest. Sure, it's a little strange that he only appears in her bed at night, but Gwen is so sure he's the one, she just can't turn him away…. Hawk Delgado knows more about Gwen than she could ever imagine. She's gorgeous, headstrong, and skittish about relationships. But Hawk is facing his own demons, demons that keep him from connecting with anyone.

Wow...all I wanted was a bit of mindless amusement, but this book is so incredibly bad. Stereotypical characters, plodding plot. I will not order another book by Ms. Ashley again when I am looking for a bit of brain candy

My name is Peter Grant, and I am a keeper of the secret flame - whatever that is. Truth be told, there's a lot I still don't know. My superior Nightingale, previously the last of England's wizardly governmental force, is trying to teach me proper schooling for a magician's apprentice. But even he doesn't have all the answers. Mostly I'm just a constable sworn to enforce the Queen’s Peace, with the occasional help from some unusual friends and a well-placed fire blast.

Holdbrook-Smith is the best narrator I have ever listened to (and I have listened to many!). I was a bit more leary of this book because the other reviews mentioned that it was different from the first three. I am SO glad that I downloaded this book. It is a great book and I completely did not see the ending coming. Ben Aaronovitch is an amazing author. I can't believe I now have to wait for the next book!

This is a great book that really comes alive with Holdbrook-Smith's narration. Get this book. You will not be disappointed. And I have read the next 3 that come after it...they just get better and Holdbrook-Smith continues to be astoundingly fantastic.

Sweet and light. Nothing too overwhelmingly exciting, but cute and easy to read. I liked it. I love a good murder mystery, political intrigue, and interesting space opera, but I also like to read books that are just nice and easy. This is an enjoyable book and a fun start to a series. I have downloaded the next book as well.

James Stark, a.k.a. Sandman Slim, crawled out of Hell, took bloody revenge for his girlfriend’s murder, and saved the world along the way. After that, what do you do for an encore? You take a lousy job tracking down monsters for money. It’s a depressing gig, but it pays for your beer and cigarettes. But in L.A., things can always get worse. Like when Lucifer comes to town to supervise his movie biography and drafts Stark as his bodyguard.

I liked the first book in this series, but LOVED the second book and am downloading the third. The first book was action packed and fun, but no real character development. This book was much better and I am really excited for this series. Funny, witty, never boring and clearly moving into new stories - not just the same story told over and over with slightly different flavors. Definitely try this series.

Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

I stumbled on Hard Magic when it first came out and absolutely loved it. I have read the Monster Hunter books as well because I enjoyed the Hard Magic Series so much. I have to say, Hard Magic, Spellbound, and Warbound are a million times better than Larry Correia's other series. Great world building, good character development, interesting magic and wonderful plot. I can't believe this series is over. It is like loosing a really good friend. Start at the beginning and enjoy. This series is one of the series that I wish I had never read so that I could begin it now and read it for the first time. Wonderful.

In the next novel from Nancy Bilyeau after her acclaimed debut The Crown, novitiate Joanna Stafford plunges into an even more dangerous conspiracy as she comes up against some of the most powerful men of her era. In 1538, England is in the midst of bloody power struggles between crown and cross that threaten to tear the country apart. Joanna Stafford has seen what lies inside the king’s torture rooms and risks imprisonment again when she is caught up in a shadowy international plot targeting the king.

I read The Crown (first book in the series) and was interested, so picked up the second book. I had issues with the Crown, but thought I might have been over reacting. Well, I don't think I was. More of the main character moaning about the choices she has to make, not liking them, making a choice anyway, then regretting the choice and being miserable. She has absolutely no sense and makes really horrible decisions as well. It is as if the author thought, 'hm, not sure what to do next. I'll make her do somthing really stupid and we'll see what happens.' Not a practical bone in this lead character's body. She drove me absolutely up a wall. I thought The Crown had more interesting history as well. The Chalice really drops the ball with the historical fiction part. I really enjoy learning accurate history while I read/listen (at least piquing me to look up information if I don't know anything about it) and this book really did not do that. I loved the Matthew Shardlake books from this same time period and really learned a ton about the Reformation and King Henry VIII. Try those instead.

But when it comes to animal atrocities—which then turn to murder—the investigation spins beyond his abilities.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I got this book. Well, it was absolutely wonderful - excellent mystery, great characters, good development. I can't wait to get the next one and am thrilled this is a series. I also really enjoy Craig Johnson's Walt Longmire series and this book is similar in terms of excellent writing and good plotting. I cannot recommend this book enough.

When novitiate nun Joanna Stafford learns her rebel cousin is condemned by King Henry VIII to be burned at the stake, she makes the decision to break the sacred rule of enclosure and flee her Dominican order in Dartford to stand at her cousin’s side. Arrested for interfering with king’s justice, Joanna, along with her father, Sir Richard Stafford, is sent to the Tower of London.

I thought this book was a bit slow at the start but was just a great read once it got going. I have read all of the Matthew Shardlake books that take place during the dissolution of the monestaries in England under Henry VIII, and this is just as good. The history is accurate and the characters interesting. Good plot. I have downloaded the second book, The Chalice.
