  • The Greatest Trade Ever: How John Paulson Defied Wall Street and Made Financial History

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Gregory Zuckerman
    • Narrated By Marc Cashman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In 2006, hedge fund manager John Paulson realized something few others suspected--that the housing market and the value of subprime mortgages were grossly inflated and headed for a major fall. Paulson's background was in mergers and acquisitions, however, and he knew little about real estate or how to wager against housing. He had spent a career as an also-ran on Wall Street. But Paulson was convinced this was his chance to make his mark. He just wasn't sure how to do it....

David says: "Better Books Now Available"

if you have read the big short by lewis don't bother reading this book as there is nothing new. if you have a choice between the two books go with michael lewis. he is a better writer and the narration is also better.

  • Ghost in the Wires: My Adventures as the World’s Most Wanted Hacker

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Kevin Mitnick, William L. Simon
    • Narrated By Ray Porter
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Kevin Mitnick was the most elusive computer break-in artist in history. He accessed computers and networks at the world’s biggest companies—and however fast the authorities were, Mitnick was faster, sprinting through phone switches, computer systems, and cellular networks. He spent years skipping through cyberspace, always three steps ahead and labeled unstoppable.

Mikeyxote says: "Great listen for tech fans"
    "nothing special here"
What did you like best about Ghost in the Wires? What did you like least?

Ok story but nothing really special about the book ... Mitnick is somewhat delusional and has a bit of a persecution complex so it is hard to get behind the Mitnick as a victim theme.... It is also difficult to believe that someone supposedly as smart and clever as he portrays himself could make as many boneheaded mistakes as he did

  • When Genius Failed: The Rise and Fall of Long-Term Capital Management

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Roger Lowenstein
    • Narrated By Roger Lowenstein
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Genius Failed is the cautionary financial tale of our time, the gripping saga of what happened when an elite group of investors believed they could actually deconstruct risk and use virtually limitless leverage to create limitless wealth. In Roger Lowenstein's hands, it is a brilliant tale peppered with fast money, vivid characters, and high drama.

Pankaj says: "Informative and interesting, full of suspense"
"please ban authors from reading their own books"

if you ever want to hear what a book read by jim rome (the sports head) would sound like here is your chance. it is so painful to listen to i had to give up which is a shame because the book is pretty well written. it is a great story especially given what has happened to the global financial markets over the last several years. shame more of the market regulators and banks didn't learn anything from the experience

    Laura says: "Surprisingly Revealing"
"big story that doesn't fail to entertain"

an incredible story, hard to believe it is nonfiction ...... i a know a number of the principals and their behavior as described by the author seems believable although i few people come off looking better than they should have (probably the people who gave the author the most access)...... the narrator mispronounces several terms and a couple of law firm names which is really distracting and embarrassing otherwise great listen

Michael Lewis turns the inquiry on its head to create a fresh, character-driven narrative brimming with indignation and dark humor, a fitting sequel to his number-one best-selling Liar’s Poker.
