When Stalina Folskaya flees her native Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, she sets out for America with her dreams - and her painful past - firmly in tow. In St. Petersburg, Stalina was a trained chemist, but in America, disillusioned with her profession, she takes a job as a maid at the Liberty, a seedy, “short-stay” motel on the outskirts of Hartford, Connecticut. Even here, gutsy Stalina sees opportunity, convincing the owner to let her transform the motel into a destination with fantasy settings.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

    No one.

Has Stalina turned you off from other books in this genre?

    What genre?

What didn’t you like about Laural Merlington’s performance?

The thick accent is hard to like after a few minutes.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Stalina?

    All of it.

While putting away books from an estate sale purchase, rare book-dealer Steven Lukas finds a box he's never seen before wedged between books on a high shelf. In it he discovers what looks to be a small diary written entirely in code, a lock of hair, and old photographs of the Fairytale King. It isn't long however, before his excitement turns to fear as he realizes that mysterious others want the diary too - and will apparently kill to get it. Suspecting that his find may contain the secret truth behind Ludwig's death, Steven consults with art historian Sara Lengfeld. Soon they find themselves on the run together, investigating each of Ludwig's three castles for clues....

What disappointed you about The Ludwig Conspiracy?

I wanted to like this book, I really did. I did enjoy the Hangman's Daughter series, but I can not finish this one.

What was most disappointing about Oliver Pötzsch’s story?

That there even is a Ludwig conspiracy theory, let alone dozens of them.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The novel must involve time travel because it starts out with king Ludwig alive and with a cellphone, this is not a favorite scene, just a rather bizarre one.

What character would you cut from The Ludwig Conspiracy?

All of them, especially Ludwig himself!!! The guy is dead, and the author explains over and over and over why the German people are so reluctant to let it go.

    Any additional comments?

Ludwig fans will rejoice, all others will be bored to tears. Let it go!

A dazzling family epic of love and forgiveness. In 1915, 2,067 skeletons were stolen from the ghost pueblo of Pecos and transported to Harvard University for medical research... In the present day and across the miles, the wind carries their cries to Grandfather, who hears the bones longing for home. But worlds collide when his modern granddaughter agrees to drive him across the country to bring home the bones of their Native American ancestors. Hollow-Woman and Grandfather are the last of the Pecos people, but she is not interested in ancient skeletons.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Some interested in listening to people rant about ancient atrocities.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Better historical fiction.

Would you be willing to try another one of Sarianna Gregg’s performances?

    Not especially.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The feeling that I (or anyone else) could have written it better. Annoyance with the plot.

    Any additional comments?

Contrived plot. If grandfather was so old, how old was he when he fathered the girl's mother? If he was so old and frail, why take him anywhere? He is a total pain, and he won't shut up.

Would you consider the audio edition of Her Royal Spyness to be better than the print version?

    Yes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Darcy. His party-crashing to survive was so funny.

What about Katherine Kellgren’s performance did you like?

Katherine comes up with a different voice for every character. I like her Irish lilt for Darcy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No; I wanted it to last forever.

    Any additional comments?

The tongue-in-cheek humor made me laugh out loud.

This sweeping biography of Bruce Springsteen features in-depth interviews with family, band members, childhood friends, ex-girlfriends, and a poignant retrospective from the Boss himself. It’s Bruce as his many fans haven’t before seen him - the man behind the myth, describing his life and work in intimate, vivid detail.

"No one needs to know this much about Bruce!"

What would have made Bruce better?

Making it a whole lot shorter.

What was most disappointing about Peter A. Carlin’s story?

It made Bruce (the man) boring.

How could the performance have been better?

What kind of accents were they supposed to be?
