thisis one of my favorite SK novels, glad to see that if finally made it to audobook.
And I hope everyone takes notice of Holter Grahams fine narration. To me he is the best since Frank Muller, and may even surpass him. He gives great inflection and change of tone to each voice and he not only reads, he performs. His voice changes subtlely throughout the book as arnie becomes more and more possessed. Each scene he acts out, giving his own interpretation as if acting it out among differnt characters, but its just himself.
This is the finest performance by a narrator I think I have ever listened to.
No, like every other sentence had talk of miles ejaculating it seemed like.
In this book no favorite. Brick is good, but miles seems like a completely different person from the miles in "sideways". As does jack. But miles is particularly unlikeable. He's sex obsessed. Treats everyone badly. And especially says mean things to his mom.
Just wayyyyyy to much sex going on with super hot young chicks and miles. Seems like the author is living vicariously thru miles. And it's told in a way that comes off as creepy. Not sensual.
Or maybe I'm missing somethjg?
I didn't think sideways did. But I welcomed a new novel with miles and jack. Ultimately I didn't like the direction the characters lives had taken.
A dissapointment. Seems a contrived plot to facilitate another road trip.
The characters aren't consistent with sideways and too much sex not portrayed very sexily.
It made me feel like i was actually there.
the descriptions of life on a whaler in the 1800s..the island
a fight for survival thousands of miles from land in the 1800s
This absoutely should be made into a film...a great story that more people should be made aware of. Excellent writing and fact gathering by NP and dead on narration by brick. i wish it had gone on longer....a
The scenes in chapter four...the interactions between brett and jake..jakes personal thoughts...the descriptions of life in Paris in the 20s
The love story between brett and jake...and how unique it is
One of the finest performances i have ever had the pleasure. Shame he doesnt narrate more books. he gives such nuance and inflections to the thoughts and voices...things i wouldnt have done on my own just reading it. he truly adds depth to this story. a pleasure to listen to, do your self a favor and give this one a shot.
when jake is alone in his apt and cant sleep and begins to cry
one of the absolute best audiobooks you will ever listen to.
The college experieinces
He is one of the best narrators working today. His voices changes for every character, he modulates his tone...in short he performs his narration. he studies the book and characters and is very prepared before he actually records the reading. Excellent
There are too many
Besides the great works that Martin has written (imo), the biggest joy was hearing him narrate his own works, his voice, the nuances and inflections he gave to it.
I was so looking forward to listening to him narrate another of his fiction works, then I saw Campbell Scott was the narrator. If I was asked to choose one narrator who I would NOT wish to read this book, it was be him...his voice is near monotone and offers no inflections or change of tone between characters.
First of all...Why didnt Martin himself narrate it??? He has done such an excellent job before...and then why, out of all the fine narrators out there, did they choose the one who has the least expression in his vocie?
Ive tried to get into the audo version, but its so hard, I know its a fine novel, but my rating reflects the audioversion of the book, not just the writing itself, as a true review of an audiobook must reflect the entire produciton, and this one is severely lacking in the performance department.
I would so love for another edition with Martin reading it to come out...I would pay double for that.
