Twenty-five years ago there was a great interplanetary war in the Solar System. It was a suicidal spasm in which terrible weapons were created and used; in which nine billion people were killed. The rivalries that led to the war are not gone. And a few of those deadly weapons remain - some still orbiting the sun in the debris of destroyed ships, some deliberately placed in storage. Now Cyrus Mobarak, the man who perfected the fusion engine, is determined to bring human settlement to the protected seas of Europa. Opposing him is Hilda Brandt, Europa's administrator.

Where does Cold as Ice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I was pleased to see Charles Sheffield appear on the audiobook menu. He's been a favorite for many years. The narration was well-paced and highly enjoyable, the characters interesting. The book held my attention throughout.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There are a lot of well-drawn characters in this book, but Rostrum Battachariya stands out.

Have you listened to any of Christine Rendel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No, but I will.

    Any additional comments?

A first-rate listen, good, tight writing and narration. Well worth a credit.

Having married a man several years older than herself, Mary Montague craves love and attention to relieve the monotony of her days. Her husband, Gerald Montague, whose ill-running health is ruining his life, has little time to spare for his young wife. In Mary's lonely eyes, Barclaye Ashe is the most romantic thing happening. He fulfills Mary's need for love and it isn't long before Mary, in spite of herself, returns his love and embarks on idyllic days and balmy nights.

What did you love best about No Truce with Time?

I enjoyed the elegant style of writing - Alec Waugh was a prolific writer and commentator on social mores of his day. The narrator was first-rate - I'd listen to her again. Good pacing, good storyteller, very easy to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of No Truce with Time?

    Dramatic ending - complete surprise.

Have you listened to any of Christine Rendel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes - she's a really good narrator - I love her voice - especially that British accent.
