No one can quite tell a Neil Gaiman story like Neil himself because no one else knows the characters so very well.
How to lose a cat.
A better story- overall, this was a stinker.
None of them really. Every character was flat- no one was dynamic in this story.
Boredom. Sorry- I hate to rate a book so poorly, but this was a juvenile entry for a very seasoned author.
The narrator was not my favorite, but he really did a fabulous job here! I was NOT a fan of the book from beginning to end, but I still was able to get through the entire thing. I didn't return it because you can tell he put a lot into it, and I really appreciate the performance/effort. If he didn't emote so much through each character to make them somewhat real (each one was TERRIBLY flat), I would have returned the book early on.
No! I should have picked up another copy of the physical book.
The full cast is awkward and unnatural- as if the actors all participated separately and all the audio tracks were just dumped into the final file. There are no natural conversational pauses, so each actor's speaand the voices are over-acted.
It was informative and the narrator had a very charismatic voice.
The audio periodically cuts in and out- the voice becomes hard to hear, then really loud. It's not constant, but it is certainly a distraction when you're trying to focus on the narrator's directions
This is a wonderful and complex story. It is absolutely unpredictable.
Childermass. In the most spoiler-free way of putting it, the story wouldn't happen without him.
Perfectly suitably British,
The History of English Magic.
It seems that halfway through the narrator forgets which characters he's doing and what their(the characters') motives are. The inflections in certain people change- I think this is mostly due to the large 'cast' of characters in the book....anyone would get lost! Overall, the narrator''s accent and tone fit the book perfectly, but you will be confused on who-is-who at points.Furthermore, this is one of the most wonderful and surprising books I've ever read and listened to. I find often in fiction I can 'predict' where a story will go, and I could never do that with this story- even up until the end! I highly recommend this book!
I plan on it! Neil Gaiman is a wonderful writer and narrator - the story and narration are captivating!
Gaiman is very good at acting out the various voices of the characters.
There are certain points that an awkward echo is used- it very much adds to the humor and drama of the performance.
