  • Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan, and others
    • Narrated By Anna Fields

"Crucial" conversations are interpersonal exchanges at work or at home that we dread having but know we cannot avoid. How do you say what needs to be said while avoiding an argument with a boss, child, or relationship partner? Crucial Conversations offers readers a proven seven-point strategy for achieving their goals in all those emotionally, psychologically, or legally charged situations that can arise in their professional and personal lives.

    F. Webster says: "Great communication tools!"
Where does Crucial Conversations rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Excellent - I own 100 + audio books - I recommend this book.

    Any additional comments?

I have listened to this book multiple times and so I recommend it (as opposed to the audio books I could not listen to or "wade through" even one time, or the books I did listen one complete time, however, have no intention to ever listen to again)As far as subject matter, I'm interested in benefits from talking about and addressing issues at work and in our personal lives (rather than silence and avoidance) and this book is an excellent resource - as is the book Crucial Confrontations by the same author.

  • Creating Magic: 10 Common Sense Leadership Strategies from a Life at Disney

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Lee Cockerell
    • Narrated By Lee Cockerell
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The secret for creating magic in our careers, our organizations, and our lives is simple: outstanding leadership, the kind that inspires employees, delights customers, and achieves extraordinary business results. No one knows more about this kind of leadership than Lee Cockerell, the man who ran Walt Disney World Resort operations for over a decade.

Garrett says: "Brilliant, simple, lessons on leadership"
What did you love best about Creating Magic?

Something that resonated with me was the author describing his interactions as a young & less experienced manager with his employees and several occasions in which the employees retaliated against him. His wife made a suggestion "maybe you need to change a little something"<br/

What was one of the most memorable moments of Creating Magic?

The author wrote a letter of commendation to an employee and sometime later happened to be in the employee's home for a dinner or gathering and he noticed the letter had been framed and place prominently on the wall - demonstrating the positive benefits of praise and how employees respond to recognition

  • The Other Kind of Smart: Simple Ways to Boost Your Emotional Intelligence for Greater Personal Effectiveness and Success

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Harvey Deutschendorf
    • Narrated By Fred Stella
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Emotional intelligence (EI) has been called “advanced common sense” and is proven to be a far better predictor of success than IQ. And unlike cognitive function, your emotional capacities are flexible, adaptable, and highly expandable. Filled with inspiring stories from companies who have tapped into the power of EI, along with profiles of people facing real-world dilemmas and easy-to-implement action plans, The Other Kind of Smart opens your eyes to crucial, yet often ignored, life lessons.

    john says: "Excellent!"
Would you listen to The Other Kind of Smart again? Why?

I've listened several times and highly recommend this book. I have 60-70 audiobooks and listen everyday.

This is my favorite book on emotional intelligence.

Next favorite would be the 4-5 books written by Daniel Goleman.

Least favorite are these two books: Emotional Intelligence Quickbook and Emotional Intelligence 2.0.

  • 18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 57 mins)
    • By Peter Bregman
    • Narrated By Peter Bregman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Based upon his weekly Harvard Business Review column (one of the most popular columns on, receiving hundreds of thousands of unique page views a month), 18 Minutes clearly shows how busy people can cut through all the daily clutter and distractions and find a way to focus on those key items that are truly the top priorities in our lives.

    Anthony says: "Really great system"
    "just okay"
What did you like best about 18 Minutes? What did you like least?

I've listened to it once and enjoyed the new concepts I learned and was not familiar with

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I've grown tired of hearing the word

Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Bregman’s performances?

    No probably not

Could you see 18 Minutes being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    Don't see that happening
