my favorite pkd gets an excellent read by heald, who isn't afraid to stretch himself when doing the 15 or so different voices. highly recommended, when used as directed.
perhaps my favorite book gets a fabulous reading. highly recommended. of the 8 or so audiobooks on my player, this is the one I keep coming back to.
I'm having an incredibly difficult time getting into this audiobook. I've read TTSS and Smiley's People a number of times, and of course, viewed the extraordinary Alec Guinness versions to death. Maybe that's the problem - I know the story too well. Davidson's reading is so far the worst I've heard. His character voices are unengaging and whenever a character's line is followed by "Smiley said" or "Lacon replied", Davidson throws in unnatural pauses between the end of the line and the "he said" that break up the rhythm of the narrative. This may very well be the first audible purchase I don't finish, but it simply doesn't measure up.
