Niall Ferguson follows the money to tell the human story behind the evolution of finance, from its origins in ancient Mesopotamia to the latest upheavals on what he calls Planet Finance. Bread, cash, dosh, dough, loot, lucre, moolah, readies, the wherewithal: Call it what you like, it matters. To Christians, love of it is the root of all evil. To generals, it's the sinews of war. To revolutionaries, it's the chains of labor. Niall Ferguson shows that finance is in fact the foundation of human progress.

Ethan M. says: "A mostly successful and interesting history"
"A worthy use of a credit"
    Overall

This book is timely and packed with information. The author puts our current "situation" in a historical context that proves very illuminating. I will be re-listening to the whole thing.

One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

As a huge fan of the written work, I was very excited to download and listen to the spoken version. The reader does a great job of making what is a very long book into an enjoyable listen.

I cannot recommend the written or audible versions highly enough.

Drawing upon history, economics, complexity theory, human immunology, psychology and his own extraordinary experiences, Joshua Ramo puts forth a radical new model for looking at the world, one that embraces its inherent unpredictability--and offers our best hope for dealing with problems and disasters as they emerge.

Richard says: "Great read, well read"
"Like listening to your know it all cousin"
    Overall

I found the book to be poorly researched with the author constantly "name-dropping" as a way to gain some form of credibility. The author is very proud of himself for reaching some basic conclusions. I was hoping for a Malcolm Gladwellesque book and I got a dud. Did I say the research was poor?
