Forty minutes into this book I had to give it the hook. All middle easterners are 'camel jockies', even the ones who represent their countries at the U.N. I love a good thriller, but it wasn't possible for me to respect this one because of the ethnic biases so obvious from the start.
I gave it short shrift so really shouldn't try to answer this question.
I had to quit 'reading' this novel about an hour into it. I downloaded it because I was attracted to the theme and I like thrillers. The author, at least up to where I quit listening, seemed even handed in setting up the situation with either side; Islamists and Westerners. However, I had to give off because of his perpetual rants against even the most moderate of liberals to the point where my blood pressure was on the rise. Adios, Lion!
The narrator was fine.
Not for political moderates.
I was immediately engrossed by the story but could not finish this book due to the readers bizarre delivery. Be sure to listen to a sample before downloading this one. I have loved all of the Reginald Hill books that I have listened to and so selected this one without checking the reader. I wish Audible would reissue this with another reader.
I gave this 4 hours and it never developed into either a History or a Story. Some of my dear friends love this reader but I found him painfully self-conscious, slow and breathy. This is a great period of history waiting for a better book.
