Sangamon Taylor's a New Age Sam Spade who sports a wet suit instead of a trench coat and prefers Jolt to Scotch. He knows about chemical sludge the way he knows about evil -- all too intimately. And the toxic trail he follows leads to some high and foul places.

"Amazing book, but get your pronunciation right!"

I grew up in Massachusetts, and the guy who read this book needs a quick lesson. Route 128 is pronounced like "root" not like "rowte", and the "a" Natick is pronounced like in "ate" not like "at".

It is a wonderfully fun book and a great reading in general, but when you get to these words and mess them up so thoroughly, especially in a book which centres on the city, it ruins the experience for me.

A few days into a murder inquiry following the brutal death of an Edinburgh art dealer, Rebus blows up at his superior, DCS Gill Templer, and is ordered to attend the Scottish Police College for "retraining". In other words, it's his Last Chance Saloon.

What made the experience of listening to Knots and Crosses the most enjoyable?

This is the first Rebus novel, his orgin story, telling about his time in the SAS and it sets him up for all the other novels and pre Siobhan Clark

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Michael Page?

    Peter Forbes

    Any additional comments?

The narrator is English, which should have disqualified him. it is painful to listen to his attempts at a Scottish accent and his female voices are particularly unsettling.
