just finished reading an Edith Wharton novel when she decided to write this book. Am I the only one who sees any similarities in style and outlook? This book obliterates the romantic ideal of first love and arranged marriages! Try it. I thought that it was well worth the $$.
I'm not sure. The constant "F" this and "sh*t" that got really old. The author seems to have a real thing for labeling someone "her man." The heroine is supposed to be a domestic abuse survivor... but she doesn't behave like one. Women who have been betrayed by someone they loved do not trust easily. Yet this character is EXTREMELY quick to forgive and forget and jump back into the "hero's" arms after he lies to her. I can't help thinking that the author missed an opportunity to make this a much more interesting story. More of the plot should have been centered around his betrayal, her subsequent lack of trust, his unwillingness to give up on them, and their reconciliation.
If you' can't get enough of body art and piercings, this is the book for you. I don't mind reading about a character with tats and piercings, but I was bored of hearing about her love affair with her piercing before the end of the third chapter. By the fifth, I called it a loss and bought another book.
I usually love Kinsale... I bought this because I occasionally like to read fantasy lit. Magical worlds. But if you aren't a serious devotee of S and M, the "love" scenes will make you ill and leave you empty. I couldn't finish the book. These scenes are long, numerous, and quite graphic... and it's harder to skip ahead with an audio book than a hard copy of the text.
no. I'm not a psychologist, but even I know that people who have been physically abused as children do not enjoy being "whipped" as adults. I personally don't understand why anyone would get off on being abused, but I know for a fact that adults who were abused as children flee from violent physical contact of any kind. Even football, wrestling. Some of the passages in this book made me ill....
charming. love the time period. Sweet and funny without being sappy. I wish there were more books out there like this one.
loved all the characters. I really hope the author decides to expand on this story line and develop all of these characters to their full potential.
Great choice of narrator
Charming. Some truly memorable lines. Great dialogue. Can't wait for the next one.
I was reluctant to purchase this one after reading the reviews. But I personally thought this one showed more imagination than the last 2. Yes, I've read all 9. And I'll probably keep listening to them as long as Mary Janice wants to write them. Escapism.
This book HAS to be read again. The accents, inflections made for a painful experience. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing.
Fun. Well written. I think you'll really like this selection.
Try it- I think you'll love it.
I don't think you'll be disappointed. Very well written. This is not your average "inspirational" offering.
