In Lonesome Animals, Russell Strawl, a tormented former lawman, is called out of retirement to hunt a serial killer with a sense of the macabre who has been leaving elaborately carved bodies of Native Americans across three counties. As the pursuit ensues, Strawl’s own dark and violent history weaves itself into the hunt, shedding light on the remains of his broken family: one wife taken by the river, one by his own hand; an adopted Native American son who fancies himself a Catholic prophet; and a daughter, whose temerity and stoicism contrast against the romantic notions of how the west was won.

I could not listen to more than 30 minutes of this before I had to turn it off. The author narrated, and unfortunately sounds bored with his own work. The performance is absolutely dreadful. He must be a smoker because I could even hear his raspy breathing between sentences. This makes me really appreciate the professionals whose great narrative skill bring a story to life. Sadly, this was a waste of a good credit.

In a bold novel, Harlan Coben (Tell No One) continues to stake out new ground in suspense, unleashing a haunting tale of secrets and betrayal...and of one man's search for his missing brother that spirals into a breakneck hunt for a killer, a victim, and the truth.

I enjoyed the story but did not like the narrator's reading of the story. He sounded the same all the way through-whether he was talking about being beaten up, his lover, his long-lost brother, or the fruit basket brought over by a neighbor. I almost gave up. I think this narrator might have done better reading the few chapters in the book written in 3rd person, and a younger, more enthusiastic reader should have read the parts in 1st person. I will check the next book I download, and will not download one by this narrator.

When a preacher with a message of hope for the homeless is found brutally executed, reporter Cindy Thomas knows the story could be huge. Probing deeper into the victim's history, she discovers he may not have been as saintly as everyone thought...

I find the narrator extremely irritating. She reads this novel of sex and murder the way one would read a child's novel-enunciating every word so clearly and sing-songy that the narration and concepts are incongruous.
