Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha - that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me…something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing - and I don't know if I can get it back. Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This book desperately needs better dialog, a bit more plot, and a bit less predictability

Has Dark Kiss turned you off from other books in this genre?

I love this genere, but it does have the intrinsic flaw of being aim for 14 year old girls. Don't talk down to young people, they can handle a little more complexity.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amanda Ronconi’s performances?

The reader was pretty good, I'm sure she is the only. Thing that made this book tolerable.

The noy dramatic tension in the while novel is in the last chapter. The characters are one dimensional. It was as if a small part of a story had been inflated to a whole novel. Even for mercades lackey it really sucked.

The new novel in Mercedes Lackey’s best-selling series of an alternative Edwardian Britain, where magic is real - and Elemental Masters are in control. Lionel Hawkins is a magician whose act is only partially sleight of hand. The rest is real magic. He’s an Elemental Magician with the power to persuade the Elementals of Air to help him create amazing illusions. It doesn’t take long before his assistant, acrobat Katie Langford, notices that he’s no ordinary magician - and for Lionel to discover that she’s no ordinary acrobat, but rather an untrained and unawakened Fire Magician.

Really not worth your time, I'm a Mercedes lackey fan and I have no illusions that she produces great literature. But wow this book was terrible, boring plot, uninspired characters, pointless rape scene, no interesting magical world building tidbits. The most frustrating part was that the plot and main character were almost completely recycled from another of the elemental masters books. Also the narrator mispronounced a lot of words, I'm not talking about accents but actually said words wrong, although her voice acting was pretty good.

  • The Introvert Advantage: How to Thrive in an Extrovert World

    Story
    (399)

The Introvert Advantage dispels common myths about introverts - they’re not necessarily shy, aloof, or antisocial - and explains how they are hardwired from birth to focus inward, so outside stimulation such as chitchat, phone calls, parties, or office meetings can easily become "too much". Most importantly, it thoroughly refutes many introverts’ belief that something is wrong with them. Instead, it helps them recognize their inner strengths - their analytical skills, ability to think outside the box, and strong powers of concentration.

This book left me stressed out and frustrated. At no point did I feel convinced there was any advantage to being an introvert. And most of her advice for dealing with workplace issues would leave my coworkers thinking I was utterly insane. Very disappointed.

After 1,000 years of peace, much Magick has faded from the world. The Elves live far from humankind. There are no High Mages, and Wild Mages are seen only rarely. Bisochim, a powerful Wild Mage, is determined to reintroduce Darkness to the world, believing that it is out of Balance.

Just a bad novel, it reminded me of the book I tried to write when I was 13, shallow character, boring plot, and the reader made everyone's voice vapid and annoying, frankly I didn't finish it.

  • I Wear the Black Hat: Grappling with Villains (Real and Imagined)

In I Wear the Black Hat, Klosterman questions the very nature of how modern people understand the concept of villainy. What was so Machiavellian about Machiavelli? Why don't we see Batman the same way we see Bernhard Goetz? Who's more worthy of our vitriol - Bill Clinton or Don Henley? What was O.J. Simpson's second-worst decision? Masterfully blending cultural analysis with self-interrogation and limitless imagination, I Wear the Black Hat delivers perceptive observations on the complexity of the anti-hero.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

i wish it was interesting and not about 90's pop culture.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    something fictional.

Would you be willing to try another one of Chuck Klosterman’s performances?

    never

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    boredom and irritation

    Any additional comments?

i truly uninteresting book, i had high hopes for it, but wow, it sucked. Perhaps if i was passionately opinionated about pop music or found this obnoxious author engaging and clever as he thinks he is... no probably not
