    Overall

I thought I would like this book. The narrator was wonderful.. the book?? not so much...too many loose nds.. too much "description" and not enough why's and wherefores.. yes we know it is HOT is the Amazon.. yes we know there are bugs and snakes.. but cannibals who don't eat anyone?.. women chewing bark ( yes bark) off of trees to be able to have children at 70.. gezz keep me away from that stuff.. I would rather have malaria than have to listen to this again

honestly when it said "the end" i was stunned.. I had no idea 44 hours could go by so fast.. Loved every minute.. will not watch the Star version.. I have my own ideas about the characters and will not be swayed! LOL. I was very skeptical about the first "outlander" as I am not a "time traveler" buff. But I loved the books.. especially the medical sections.. wonderful and the narrator? who could be better.. they are quite a team of women. LOVE IT

Before Gabrielle Hamilton opened her acclaimed New York restaurant Prune, she spent twenty fierce, hard-living years trying to find purpose and meaning in her life. Above all she sought family, particularly the thrill and the magnificence of the one from her childhood that, in her adult years, eluded her. Hamilton’s ease and comfort in a kitchen were instilled in her at an early age when her parents hosted grand parties, often for more than one hundred friends and neighbors.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Anthony Bourdain

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Not this

How could the performance have been better?

It could not have been too much worse. She irritated me from the beginning.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Well I got hungry.. then I got bored.. then I got angry that i paid to listen to a whiner who bitched about almost everything. why does a lesbian marry a male doctor and then have two children and then bitch about nursing them? BORING

    Any additional comments?

yes Anthony Bourdain.. funny, worldly. wicked and wise my kind of foodie

New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel.

    2. toothpaste
    3. tampons
    4. aspirin
    5. deodorant

add whatever you could not live without

while I love the series and the narration is fabulous.. I wonder.. who would give up these things plus more.. who would want the smells, disease and the decay and the filth of the :old days" when you have known what it is like to have fresh clothing and a clean body.. love is great.. no doubt about it.. but I am not sure it be enough to compensate for all of the things I would miss.

loved the ending to the Power Og One.. narration of .. well shocking.. how does he do it? switching from Irish to Indian to Boer in less than two minutes of reading. PeeKay is a wonderful character..one who can box and practice law at the same time.. listening is great but I have to pick up the book to see how you spell unshobie shobie ungelosi and I want to hear the Africans sing.. Courtenay and Bower make tears come to your eyes.. so be careful driving and listening.. fabulous. wonderful, enchanting all rolled into one..you won't be sorry.. but get The Power of One first.

Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues here in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

    Overall

don't miss this one.. fantastic.. so far three of my friends have listened and they are all as fascinated as I was.. I just finished the book and loved to the very end..one of those that you go ..ahhhhh when you know it is finished.. laughter, strange subject matter, history, terrific characters.. all rolled into a narrative that will make you laugh out loud and cry a bit too. The narration is wonderful injecting all sorts of accents and funny sayings like "honey mo" with just the right amount of joy . He sounds like he loves what he is reading. The authors prose flows like silk.. and that too is a part of the story..Read , listen, enjoy then go out and get as piece of baklava.. or maybe a hot dog..

Now at last Keith Richards pauses to tell his story in the most anticipated autobiography in decades. And what a story! Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records in a coldwater flat with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones, building a sound and a band out of music they loved. Finding fame and success as a bad-boy band, only to find themselves challenged by authorities everywhere....

One cold November night when Kat Kominski was 15 years old, she and some friends held up a convenience store. In the heat of the moment, one of the others shot and killed an off-duty cop moonlighting as a security guard. Kat and her pals fled the scene in a panic, and no one was caught. Thirteen years later, Kat - now Kate White - has built a new life for herself. Now a single mom with a nine-year-old son, she works as a prosecutor in the Philadelphia DA's office. But her dark past returns to haunt her.

LeftyMom says: "Not as good at Shattered"
"Tousled, clenched, tendrils and oh so much more"
    Overall

First.. the narrator was very good but the book.. oh my..if I heard one more time about Kates tight bun with loose tendrils framing her beautiful face and Toms' tousled hair and strong muscled arms i would have puked ( if I had not been driving). The story line seems implausible.. a juvenile witnesses a murder.. then it "haunts' her for the rest of her implausible life.. until TOM arrives.. sorry, crimes committed while a juvenile are not usually enough to throw you in prison for life..especially a crime as simple as being a witness ( Kate thinks through all of this that she could be called an accomplice.. and she is a lawyer?? Come on.. get real.. even it is is fiction.. we are not stupid.. but this book is.. avoid... boring and repetitive with a story line that is chock full of .. well... tousled and tendrils.. and by the way.. no one wears pantyhose AND panties at the same time.. do they? and if they do.. does the reader really need to know?

Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

    Overall

hated Walter.. his wife too.. Richard.. he was ok.. their kids.. boring and awful.. the scene in the bathroom as Joey tried to recapture his wedding ring.. pure well bathroom boy humor..Walter takes his neighbors cat to certain death at the shelter.. but hardly gives the children who miss it a second thought.. wants no one else to have children.. but it is ok if he has them.. a tired old hippie who turns out to be a nasty neighbor.. and Patty?? no thanks.. boring, depressed all of the time and can't make up her mind about anything..
I did like Lelethia. the Indian.. and loved the readers accent.. too long.. and I hardly listen to anything that is less than 20 hours..too drawn out and too too too depressing without any redeeming qualities.. I don't mind depressing but when combined with boring.. nope.. I will stick to Rabbit and Updike
